If you paid up to $8,000 for 1 qualifying dependent or up to $16,000 for 2 or more qualifying dependents to be cared for in 2021, up to 50% of those expenses can be refunded to you. Child and dependent care expenses are refundable this year. There are income limits and other exceptions.

Did you not work in 2021, but you have dependent children under the age of 18? You can still get a refund.

Did you receive advance child credit payments, but are not claiming them again this year? You may not have to pay it back.

Ask your tax preparer. If you need a preparer, DM me. I am available for in-person and remote appointments.

IRS announced that they will not begin accepting individual income tax returns until Friday, February 12th.

If you are claiming certain credits, such as Earned Income Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit, you can expect your refund after the first week of March.

You May Need to Renew Your ITIN!!
All ITINs not used on a federal tax return at least once in the last three years will no longer be valid for use on a tax return as of Jan. 1, 2017. Additionally, all ITINs issued before 2013 will begin expiring this year, starting with those with middle digits of 78 and 79 (Example: (9XX-78-###X). All expired ITINs must be renewed before being used on a U.S. tax return. No action is needed by ITIN holders who don’t need to file a tax return next year. Also, there are new documentation requirements when applying for or renewing an ITIN for certain dependents. Find more information in the ITIN Expiration Frequently Asked Questions.
