As each year the deadline is extended.

The filing deadline for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program has been officially extended to December 31, 2026. This ensures that eligible seniors, widows and widowers, and those with disabilities have the time they need to apply for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2025.

Rebates will start going out on July 1. If you haven’t applied yet, find out how you might be able to get $1,000 back in your pocket: https://www.pa.gov/agencies/revenue/newsroom/shapiro-administration-extends-deadline-for-property-tax-rent-rebate-program-to-december-31,-2026,-allowing-more-time-for-pennsylvanians-to-apply-for-tax-relief

So I had two cases so far and wanted to share in case others also received and didn’t contact me. This has been posted on several groups I belong to with tax professionals. So guess it’s a common issue this year. It’s not spam.

Did you receive a check from the Department of Revenue? Don't panic, its real. It's the new Working Pennsylvania Tax Credit. IF it was not included with your state tax return, the State is handling disbursing the checks. If you receive Earned Income Credit on the Federal you will receive about 10% of that figure as this credit. Here is an example of the check you may receive. It's real and you may cash it. WPTC- Working Pa Tax Credit. For those that have asked here is how will be handled:

*File your federal Form 1040 and claim the EITC (preferably online). Yes, you must receive EIC on the Federal to be eligible!
*File your PA-40.
**The Department of Revenue will automatically calculate your WPTC and apply it to reduce your PA taxes or increase your refund.

Note: Due to the legislation's passage being late in the year, the WPTC will not be added to the 2025 tax year Form PA-40. The state will calculate and remit the WPTC for tax year 2025, and the state anticipates no processing delays due to the WPTC calculation. The WPTC will be included on Form PA-40 in 2026 and subsequent years.
