Things that can trigger a review or Audit from the IRS …. Part 1

🚩Self-Employment Income With No Proof. If you’re claiming business income (or losses) but can not show proof of bank statements, invoices, or legit profit and losses .

🚩 Filing a different dependent every year . (Dependents are tracked by their social security number. Filing or letting different people file your dependents each year will trigger an audit).

📍 Any income or deduction has to be able to be PROVEN. The IRS will not believe it just because you “SAID” that’s how much you earned or loss ….

✅ If you receive SSI filing taxes can affect your benefits if you didn’t report income to SSI, it’s a certain income threshold you can not exceed .

✅ 1099 is Self Employment no taxes are withheld from it so it usually lowers your Refund amount .

✅ Dependents 18 years or older CAN NOT be claimed unless they’re still in school or disabled .

✅ Filing Married means you have double the income so your tax refund more than likely will not be BIG .

Get Ready for Tax Season 2024!

📢 To ensure a smooth and accurate filing process, here’s what you need to gather now:

• 🏷 Social Security Cards (for you & your dependents)
• 🆔 Valid Driver’s License or ID
• 👶 Birth Certificates/Medicaid Cards (for dependents)
• 🏡 Proof of Head of Household (Utility Bills, Lease, Rent/Mortgage Statements)
• 💼 W-2 Forms (for all employed individuals)
• 🧾 Self-Employed? Gather your invoices, bank statements, receipts, and expense logs
• 🎓 1098-T Form (for students)

Don’t forget: Any additional tax documents you receive, such as 1099s or Marketplace Insurance documents, are also crucial for accurate filing.

⚠️ Missing Documents? If you’re missing important documents like Social Security Cards or Birth Certificates, now is the time to get them before the tax season starts.
