Many years ago I met Melissa Etheridge in a dive bar near downtown Pasadena. She was a struggling 18 year old artist trying to make it as a songwriter, singer, and 12-string guitar playing musician. I was intrigued with her determination and focus. To anyone who'd listen to me, I predicted that she was going to make it in the music world not because she was the best of the best (she wasn't), but because she was focused. That was all she did. She wrote songs and schlepped her raggy equipment in her raggy a$$ car from dive bar to dive bar while living commune style in a small apartment. She didn't have another job. Music wasn't a side gig for her. It was all she did. She was doing what she did. Guess what?! I was right! By the mid 1990s, Melissa made it to the top of the charts reaching #1 in the Adult Contemporary chart and #8 in the Billboard Hot 100 with her song " I'm the One," a song I'd heard in those dive bars years before it ever hit the charts.
My point is, Focus brings Success. That's what this article is about by one of my favorite inspirational writers, Sahil Bloom.
