💬 Can I deduct my home office?

Yes — but only if it meets all these tests:

✅ Used regularly (not just now and then)
✅ Used exclusively for business
✅ It’s essential to your work
✅ And no — your couch doesn’t count 😄

📌 If you meet the rules, you can deduct a portion of rent, mortgage interest, utilities, internet, and more!

🧾 Let Deana M Arnold CPA PLLC help you get every deduction you deserve — without guessing.

💬 Hey Colorado LLCs!

Did you know you’re required to file an annual report with the Secretary of State every year?
If you forget, there’s a $50 late fee waiting for you.

✅ What to do:

• Go to https://www.sos.state.co.us

• Use your entity ID or name to look it up
• Pay the $10 fee and submit it — that’s it!

💬 S-Corp owners – here’s the rule:
The IRS requires you to pay yourself a reasonable salary before taking distributions.

✅ Salary:

• W-2 paycheck (subject to payroll taxes).
✅ Distributions:

• Profit you can take after paying yourself a fair wage.

📌 Why it matters:

• Skip a salary and the IRS can reclassify distributions as wages AND hit you with back taxes + penalties.

💡 TIP: Work with your tax pro to find a “reasonable salary” based on your industry and role.

💬 What’s Section 179?
It’s a tax rule that lets you deduct 100% of qualifying equipment or vehicles the year you buy them instead of spreading the deduction over several years.

✅ Examples:

• Work trucks or vans

• Office computers and furniture

• Machinery for your trade

📌 2025 Limit: Up to $1,220,000 of equipment can qualify (as long as it’s used for business).

💡 Example: Buy a $50,000 truck for your business in 2025 → Deduct all $50K this year instead of over 5 years.

👉 Tip: The equipment must be in use by 12/31 to qualify. Plan purchases before year-end!

🚚 Deduct Your Business Mileage!
💬 Keep a mileage log – every business mile = $$ saved!

Business owners: Every mile you drive for business can cut your tax bill.

• 2025 IRS rate: 67 cents per mile

• Counts for work trips: client meetings, supply runs, etc.

• Does NOT include commuting from home to your office.

• Keep a mileage log or app – IRS loves records.

💡 Example: 10,000 business miles = $6,700 deduction.
That’s real money left in your pocket.

📦 BUSINESS TIP OF THE DAY
Office Supplies = Tax Write-Offs 🖊️📠

Think that $12 stapler doesn’t matter? Think again. Office supplies are 100% deductible when used for business.

🧾 This includes:
✔️ Pens, notebooks, printer paper
✔️ Ink, labels, even sticky notes
✔️ Postage and shipping supplies
✔️ That $40 mouse you rage-clicked through tax season

Pro Tip: Keep receipts + use a business card for easy tracking. If it helps your biz run, there’s a good chance it’s deductible.

Don’t let little write-offs slip through the cracks. They add up.

🧾 BUSINESS TIP OF THE DAY
Save Those Receipts (Yes, Even the Dumb Ones)

You’d be surprised what counts as a legit business expense—meals, mileage, even that random printer cable you forgot you bought on Amazon at 2AM.

But here’s the thing:
If you don’t have a receipt, the IRS might say “nah.”

📂 Digital or paper is fine—just keep ’em.
📱 Pro tip: use apps like Expensify, Evernote, or even your camera roll.
🧠 Bonus: keep notes on why you spent the money (IRS loves context).

Every receipt is a little tax deduction waiting to be claimed. Don’t leave money on the table.

🧾✨ Whimsical Tax Tip of the Day ✨🧾
"Did your business buy a llama? You might be able to write it off." 🦙💼

Okay, maybe not just for the cuteness factor...
But if that llama is guarding your vineyard or making public appearances for your brand — suddenly it’s not just a llama... it's a business asset. 🧠💡

🎯 Moral of the story:
If it supports your business, it might be deductible. Keep those receipts and let us sort the write-offs from the what-was-I-thinking.

Got a weird expense you’re not sure about?
Send it our way. We love a good deduction detective story. 🕵️‍♂️
