MIXED MESSAGE
Before she was a pop star, Swift famously grew up on a Christmas tree farm in Reading, Pennsylvania. Because it was a working farm, everyone had chores—and Taylor’s job was about as weird and specific as it gets for a future pop icon.
She wasn't cutting down trees or tying bows. Her designated job was praying mantis egg removal.
As she explained it, she had to check the trees before they were sold to ensure they didn't have praying mantis pods on them. If she missed one, the pods would hatch inside people's warm houses, resulting in a horror-movie scenario of thousands of baby mantises swarming a family's living room on Christmas morning.
