I know everyone is thinking about 2025 tax return but there are some new things for 2026 that you need to think about now.

- Deduct up to $1000 of cash charitable donations on your tax return.
- Must be a non-profit (GoFundMe doesn’t count)
- Cash donations only, noncash donations such as food or clothing do not count.

Homeschooling is a hot topic currently between families making the decision to leave public education and Texas passing the 'School Voucher Program'.
Currently, there are not any federal tax deductions or credits for homeschooling. The most common exception is for special needs education, which could be possibly written off as a medical expense.

As if tax season is not chaotic enough, the FINAL ruling is that the BOI report is no longer required for domestic entities.
This is why I have held off on filing for clients and making sure I don’t charge them for unnecessary reports.

The Treasury Department is announcing today that, with respect to the Corporate Transparency Act, not only will it not enforce any penalties or fines associated with the beneficial ownership information reporting rule under the existing regulatory deadlines, but it will further not enforce any penalties or fines against U.S. citizens or domestic reporting companies or their beneficial owners after the forthcoming rule changes take effect either. The Treasury Department will further be issuing a proposed rulemaking that will narrow the scope of the rule to foreign reporting companies only.

It’s the time of year where many are looking for a new tax preparer. Just a few things to consider when looking:

1 - Someone can be a tax preparer without any experience or education. No license is required, just a PTIN, which only needs a background check and being up-to-date on your own taxes.
2 - Make sure the paid tax preparer part of your return is filled out. Ghost preparers exist and normally do this when they did something fishy or can’t get a PTIN.
3 - If you’re getting a huge refund and that isn’t normal, please review your return carefully or get a 2nd opinion.
4 - A preparer cannot charge you based on the amount of refund.

There’s lots of options out there, so just do your due diligence.
