IR-2023-05, January 12, 2023 — The Internal Revenue Service today announced Monday, January 23, 2023, as the beginning of the nation's 2023 tax season when the agency will begin accepting and processing 2022 tax year returns.

We will reopen for Tax Season 2025 on Monday Jan 6th 2025 at 9:00 am.
Our hours for the week of Jan 6 - Jan 10 will be 9am - 6pm, Mon - Thu and 9am - 5pm, Fri.

We do not have a definite date yet, but the buzz is:
* The IRS may start accepting returns on Jan. 27, 2025.

Hopefully, they will actually settle on an earlier date for accepting returns.

Update: The IRS has announced that Efiling will not begin until January 29th.

We can prepare taxes now, but will not be able to efile them until the IRS starts accepting them on the 29th.

We are open extended hours from 9am to 8pm, Monday - Friday.

As of now, the ESTIMATED date that the IRS will start processing returns is January 22, 2024.

You can expect your refund to be direct deposited from the IRS in 2 to 3 weeks. Sometimes refunds will direct deposit in as little as 10 days, but the IRS cautions taxpayers not to count on refunds to be delivered based on the estimated times.

Taxpayers who receive Earned Income Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit will not begin receiving refunds until February 27th.

Some tax credits return to 2019 levels. This means that affected taxpayers will likely receive a significantly smaller refund compared with the previous tax year. Changes include amounts for the Child Tax Credit (CTC), Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child and Dependent Care Credit.

Those who got $3,600 per dependent in 2021 for the CTC will, if eligible, get $2,000 for the 2022 tax year.

For the EITC, eligible taxpayers with no children who received roughly $1,500 in 2021 will now get $500 in 2022.

The Child and Dependent Care Credit returns to a maximum of $2,100 in 2022 instead of $8,000 in 2021.
