ALL ABOUT TRANSCRIPTS
I am 95% sure that this post will answer almost 99% of everyone's questions that have to do with transcripts.
I'm going to pin this, and any questions I know I answered, you'll be advised to search.
Here is the link to get your transcripts..
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
When you get to :Why you need this transcript. (You can provide any reason)
The customer File number will ALWAYS be blank..
If you see a year with a star next to it. It means the IRS doesn't have a return filed for you for that year..if you try to pull it, you will receive a notice that says "They received a request for a verification of a non-filing." Which means you are trying to pull a transcript for a year that there is none, because IRS hasn't received your return yet".
There are 4 different types of transcripts.
Account- Shows what the IRS/IRM is doing on the account
Return- Shows what YOU put on your return when you filed.
Record- Is literally just the Account and Return Transcripts put together
Wage- Shows you everything that was submitted to Social Security in your social. (This transcript is not available until around June/July of the current Tax Season.
Now on the transcripts.
Let's break down some transcripts.
Teal= This is your refund amount
Red= This is the as of date (means absolutely NOTHING to YOU THE TAXPAYER..it's just for the computer (IRM) and it will change, frequently sometimes)
Yellow=Code 766= your credits. (All refundable credits like ACTC) these amounts are included in your return already and is not extra. The 4/15 date is just the last day of tax season. And these credits will always have that date..
Yellow=Code 768= This is EIC (EARNED INCOME CREDIT) If you have this Code you are considered a PATHER and have to wait until AFTER Feb 15th for a date (Although you could have already processed) PATH just means you can't have a DATE before feb 15th. Again it will always have the 4/15 date as this is just the end of tax season. This amount is also already included in your refund and not extra money.
Blue= Code 150= This is the amount of your TAX liability. (If this line is zero, stop worrying about them NOT taking federal taxes out of your checks!)
Purple (top one)= Code 806= This is all of your Federal witholding you had on your w2s, or other tax documents like 1099R or W2Gs
To calculate your refund (if you don't want to go by the amount in teal)
Add the 3 purple lines (you might only have 1 2 or all 3 lines)
Then minus the blue line
=your tax refund
Here is a few common codes:
Code 570- Hold Code. Could be a hold for a few things, PATH (not all pathers get it) Wage review, basic review, No reason 🤦🏼♀️
Having NA on your transcripts means the return has NOT started to process. This could mean either, you just haven't starting processing because the hub your return went to is backed up, you got selected for an ID verification (And you will need to wait on a letter) FYI AN IP PIN DOES NOT STOP YOU FROM HAVING TO ID VERIFY. (An IP Pin is to prevent identity theft and ID verification, is the IRS verify, that you are the one who filed the return)
Or it means you got kicked out of the system and someone has to manually reenter you. ALL of these things are COMPLETELY RANDOM!
CODE 424=You were randomly selected for an audit by the computer. It was sent over to the audit department they now have 10 business days to either audit you or put you back into normal processing.
420= (The 420 NOBODY WANTS)This is an audit. If you don't have your paperwork together, get it together now!!!
You'll also get a code 810= refund freeze until the audit is over then you'll get a code 811= reverse refund freeze. You can also get a free code 810, if your return is being suspected of fraud.
Code 971= is a letter was sent to you. If you have an IDME. Account you can view SOME letters online now.
Getting transcripts is easier than ever now!! Did you have an IDME account to go on the ctc portal? Guess what you can use those same creditals to login to the irs site now.
Don't have one. Go create one now, you no longer need a credit card, loan, etc.
