How it all started.

While I was in the Army my brothers entered the financial industry. They moved from Independent Advisors to the bank channel and really enjoyed their work. November 24th 2012 (Thanksgiving day and 1 day after my oldest daughters birthday) I landed in America after my 3rd deployment to Iraq knowing that was my last and it was time to move forward in life into a different career path.

We packed the family up and moved back home to where my wife and I had both grown up, Olathe, KS. One of our first weeks at church we met Sara Wise the Office Manager of Sage Financial Inc. a family financial planning business. Sara introduced me to her father, Terry Sharp and over year and three months we talked. One of Terry’s favorite sayings is to hire slow and fire fast.

March 2014 after having received my Series 7 and Series 66 Financial Licenses, in addition to my Kansas Life and Health I came to work for the Sharp family. Over the next couple years Terry mentored me and taught me everything he had learned over the past 10 years of serving as a retirement planner for members of our community. Terry also taught me a number of lessons he learned as a farmer managing the sugarcane fields in Hawaii. The parallels between Retirement planning and farming are more than you might think. Risk management, Long term planning, just to name a couple.

In 2016 I purchased Sage Financial Inc. from the Sharp family and over the next couple years made a few changes. We kept the family business model. My wife came on board as my Office Manager, and my Step-brother as my Marketing Director. We also branched out and brought Kelly Klusman in as a CPA and Cam Clark as an Estate Planning Attorney. We relocated to a more central location to Kansas City, opened a second location in Lee’s Summit , MO and changed our name to OWLFI Inc. We have been busy!
