As we start this new year, most people create "New Year Resolutions." According to a study done by discoverhappyhabits.com, about 54% of all New Year Resolutions are failed by the 6-month mark.
One of the reason's I have failed in previous years to accomplish my New Year Resolutions was because I was setting goals that did not have a purpose. They were superficial and did not really give me something to work for.
When we set our goals, we need to start with the end in mind. What is our purpose here in life? You may have more than one and you probably do. Think of each aspect of your life, your career, your family, your spirituality. Write down your purpose or purposes for each category in your life.
Once you have your purposes, you create long term stretch goals. Things that are out of your reach at the moment but that are realistic. You want something that will challenge you. Something that will push you out of your comfort zone to accomplish.
After your stretch goals are set, you can then begin setting monthly, weekly and daily goals to help you achieve your stretch goals. These goals can include things like going for a run or lifting weights if you want to improve your physical health. It could include reading scriptures every day and praying if you want to strengthen your spiritual connection with God.
Your goals are what you decide them to be. If we don't set goals and have something to reach for, you will find that your life begins to fizzle. You will feel like you won't ever achieve anything because you haven't given yourself something to achieve.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope it helped you in your journey to becoming the best YOU that you can be!
Happy New Year!
