🚨 Business Owners — this one’s for you

The IRS has expanded access to its Business Tax Account, giving more entities the ability to manage their tax accounts online.

This now includes partnerships, corporations, tax-exempt organizations, and more.

Inside the platform, you can:
• View balances and payment history
• Access IRS notices and transcripts
• Make payments and stay on top of compliance

The IRS is continuing to move toward a more digital system, which means fewer paper notices and less time spent on hold.

That said, the rollout is still evolving, so not all features are fully available yet.

If you’re a business owner, now is a good time to get familiar with this tool and how it can help you stay organized and proactive.

🚨 Tax Deadline Reminder: April 15, 2026 🚨

The tax filing deadline is quickly approaching.

While the IRS accepts returns throughout the year, this date is extremely important if you expect to owe.

April 15, 2026 is your deadline to:
✔️ File your tax return
✔️ Pay your balance

If you miss this deadline, two penalties apply:

• Failure to File Penalty
5% of the unpaid tax per month (up to 25%)

• Failure to Pay Penalty
0.5% of the unpaid tax per month

And yes… interest is added on top of both.

That balance can grow quickly.

Bottom line:
Even if you can’t pay your balance in full, make sure you file your return on time to avoid the larger late filing penalty.

If you need more time, filing an extension gives you 6 additional months to prepare your return.

Our tax partners are still onboarding clients and preparing extensions for the deadline:

It’s almost the end of the first quarter. If you owed taxes this year, now is a good time to review your W-4 forms.

One of the biggest reasons taxpayers end up owing at tax time is because their withholding wasn’t set up correctly, especially when they work multiple jobs.

Here’s how to properly complete your Form W-4 if you work more than one job.

Step 1 – Personal Information
Enter your name, address, Social Security number, and filing status.

Step 2 – Multiple Jobs (Most Important Section)
If you work more than one job at the same time, or if you are married filing jointly and both spouses work, you must address this section.

Check the box in Step 2(c) that says “Multiple Jobs or Spouse Works.”

Checking this box tells your employer to withhold taxes at a higher rate to account for additional income.

Note: This option works best if the jobs pay similar amounts. If one job pays significantly more than the other, additional withholding in Step 4 may still be needed.

Step 3 – Dependents
Only complete this section if you qualify for dependent tax credits.

Step 4 – Extra Withholding (Highly Recommended)
If you work multiple jobs, consider adding extra withholding per paycheck. Even a small additional amount can help prevent a balance due at tax time.

Step 5 – Sign and Submit
Sign the form and give it to your employer so payroll can update your withholding.

Why this matters

When W-4 forms are not adjusted for multiple jobs, taxpayers often find themselves owing thousands of dollars when their return is filed.

Proper withholding throughout the year helps you stay ahead and avoid that situation.

If your income changes or you start working additional jobs, it’s always a good idea to review and update your W-4.

🚨 If you haven’t filed your 2022 tax return, you need to do it ASAP if you believe you may be due a refund.

The IRS must receive your 2022 return by April 15, 2026 for you to claim any refund you may be entitled to.

After April 15, 2026, any refund associated with 2022 is permanently lost.

This deadline is called the Refund Statute Expiration Date (RSED).
In most cases, the IRS only allows 3 years from the original due date of the return for taxpayers to claim a refund.

⚠️ This rule applies only to taxpayers who may be due a refund.

If you still need to file 2022, 2023, or 2024, now is the time to get it handled. If you don’t have your documents, we are able to pull your records and get your returns prepared.

📌January 26 is the official opening day of tax season, when the IRS begins officially processing returns.

Some returns were already picked up and accepted during HUB testing. Others will begin moving once processing starts.

If you’re claiming:
• Earned Income Credit (EIC)
• Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC)

Your return is delayed by law under the PATH Act. Refunds will not be released until mid-February at the earliest.

This applies to everyone with these credits, no matter who prepared the return or how early it was filed.

After acceptance, PATH Act returns may show “processing” or a PATH Act message. That is normal, and no action is needed.

Client: “I’m ready to file, I uploaded all my documents.”

Me: “Perfect… but you didn’t mark that you were in school last year. Didn’t I see graduation pics on yiur timeline?”

Client: “I graduated last year so I didn’t check it.”

Me: “Please go find that 1098-T and upload it.”

Boom. Added $2,379 to her refund.

Please stop rushing. The IRS doesn’t open until 1/26 and PATH Act folks will be sitting till end of February anyway. Everything filed right now is basically waiting in the same line.

Take your time.
Get it right.
Stop leaving money on the table.

📌 If you’re 65+, this new deduction could lower your taxable income.

Starting in 2025 through 2028, taxpayers age 65 and older may qualify for an additional $6,000 deduction 💰
This is on top of the standard senior deduction already available.
Married couples where both spouses qualify could see up to $12,000 in additional deductions.
Income limits apply, so it won’t affect everyone the same way. Planning ahead will matter.
Help the seniors you love by sharing this information.
If you’d like help reviewing how this may apply to your situation, we’re happy to assist with a consultation.

One question I ask every single client every year:

“Did anything change in your life or income since last year?”

I ask this even after the intake form to make sure nothing gets overlooked.

Life changes affect taxes. Income shifts, family changes, moves, business updates, and insurance changes all count.

Most missed deductions don’t come from missing documents. They come from changes that were never discussed.

If you’ve got life situations you want considered, we’d love to consult with you.
