Scam Alert: Phishing Scams Target Mississippi Taxpayers via Text Message

The Mississippi Department of Revenue (MDOR) requested that we notify our members of a text scam that started on Saturday in Mississippi. The text asks the taxpayer to validate a tax refund payment. Many states have been receiving text scams over the last several weeks. Consequently, MDOR issued a press release on September 22 and then again on Saturday.

If you receive one of these phishing texts, take the following
action:
• Do not click on any links in the text
• Do not respond to the text
• Delete the text

Laurel, Mississippi – Leadership Jones County (LJC) enters its 34th year of programing with the 2024/2025 class officially in session.

Leadership Jones County is a program of the Community Development Foundation a suborganization of the Economic Development Authority of Jones County. Open to adults over 21 years old and who live or work in Jones County, this program was developed to identify and prepare the community’s future leadership resources. Over the years, these programs have provided Jones County with a network of current and emerging leaders who possess the skills and sense of commitment to improve our community.

The program will begin in September, with a two-day team building retreat and concludes in May with a graduation ceremony. Monthly sessions are scheduled in various locations throughout Jones County including a session at the State Capitol in Jackson. Session topics include quality of life, state government, economic development, leadership skills training and more.

The 2024/2025 Leadership Jones County participants are pictured in the attached photo.
