One of the clearest signs of a great financial plan?

Margin.

Not perfection. Not precision.

Margin.

The ability to adjust when life inevitably changes.
Because it will change.

If your entire plan hinges on a single outcome—
"If I sell my business for $X, everything works…"
That's not a plan.

That's a bet.

A strong financial plan builds in flexibility:

- Extra savings capacity

- Conservative assumptions

- Multiple paths to success

Why does that matter?

Because margin creates mental freedom.

- It lowers stress.
- It gives you options.

And options are what turn uncertainty from a threat… into an advantage.

T minus one day til the tax filing deadline

Just a friendly reminder, high taxes are symptomatic of prosperity.

High income and high assets mean higher taxes

To my Christian taxpayers, let me challenge you:

Give thanks to God that you're in a position to be paying taxes.

You've got this!

How do our children learn to manage money?

Mostly by managing money!

Parents are in the unique position to offer small management tasks in a controlled environment so that kids can learn the ropes.

It doesn't have to be fancy and you don't have to be an expert.

Most tax mistakes aren't caused by bad advice — they're caused by bad communication.

Tax season is the annual reminder of how powerful it is when your financial planner and CPA actually talk to each other.

It's hard to overstate how many planning and investing opportunities get lost in translation when those worlds stay siloed.

Tax efficiency isn't just about having a good strategy —
it's about making sure it's implemented correctly and reported properly.

Call me a nerd, because I genuinely love the tax-optimization side of this job.

But call me human too — because my favorite part of tax season is translating complex tax results into plain English so clients feel confident, informed, and in control (shoutout to Holistiplan 🙌).

Does your financial planner actively coordinate with your tax preparer?

Most people spend more time planning a 2 week vacation than they do planning 20+ year of retirement.

Think on that for a second

I'm not speaking about the financial planning side, but on what retirement will actually look like.

I find that most clients are highly focused on "Escaping from work" and finding financial freedom.

But when I ask "for what purpose?"

I usually get blank stares or "Golf and travel".

Spend time considering what life will look like if you stopped work.

What would fill my time?

Andy Griffith Reruns get old real quick and your golf score won't get that much better

Instead think about what will get you out of bed in the morning.

What will your purpose be?

The most financially freeing decision my client made last year wasn't saving more—it was giving money away.

This client shared something with me last week.

For the past few years, he's felt anxious and squeezed financially.

Higher costs, less joy in his job—everything felt tight.

He said it felt like money was managing him instead of the other way around.

But last week, he walked in with a completely different attitude.

He and his wife had decided last year to start giving money away.

Not an enormous amount—just enough that it required real sacrifice.

And the change is evident.

He told me life feels lighter. More enjoyable.

He's even seeing work bonuses as God's generous provision, not something he has to cling to.

His income didn't increase.

His mindset did.

Generosity does something powerful—it loosens money's grip, shifts our mindset, and reminds us who truly provides.

The movement is growing, and I'm grateful to be part of it.

I had the privilege of attending the Redeeming Money Conference last week with Kingdom Advisors from all over the country. What an encouragement to gather with so many Christian financial professionals who share a passion for stewarding finances through a biblical lens.

The conversations, stories, and insights were energizing — each one helping me grow in my calling to serve clients with greater wisdom and purpose.

Are Trump accounts going to replace 529 plans?

Not a chance.

True, you should take advantage of the $1,000 funding from the Treasury

It's also nice to not have a "earned income" requirement for contributions

But 529s remain the most flexible and helpful accounts for education planning, wealth transfer, and estate planning, in my opinion

A Donee can retain full control of the 529 while still removing the money from their taxable estate

This is a great tool in a High Net Worth family

If last night's game showed anything...

It pays to have a great defense!

Defense in your financial plan looks like:

- An emergency fund to prepare for the unexpected

- Bonds in your retirement portfolio

- An updated estate plan
