Great week in San Diego for the Gateway Financial Advisors, Inc. Annual Awards Conference. Always grateful for the opportunity to learn, celebrate great work, and reconnect with people who are committed to serving clients the right way.

This trip is always more special because I get to work and vacation with lifelong middle/high school friends Andrew Wittich and Erika Washington Wittich. And this year was made even better with the surprise visit from our high school friend David Grevenberg, who drove down from L.A. to hang out with us!

Professional growth, old & new friends, and family!

And San Diego never disappoints.

When an 18- or 19-year-old enters professional or college sports, they’re stepping into pressure, visibility, family expectations, tax complexity, lifestyle decisions, and a very short earning window. The issue isn’t just that young athletes suddenly earn significant money. It’s whether the people around them are truly prepared to help them protect it, manage it, and turn it into long-term stability.

Many young men will transform their lives, and in many cases the financial trajectory of their families, at tomorrow’s NFL Draft. Front Office Sports reports that the projected No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft is expected to sign a four-year, $54.56 million contract, with the second and third picks also projected to top $50 million. That kind of opportunity deserves more than surface-level advice. It requires structure, sound decision-making, and a long-term perspective from day one. Wishing these players wisdom, strong guidance, and every success as they enter this next season of life.

The No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, widely assumed to be QB Fernando Mendoza, is projected to sign a four-year, $54.56 million contract.

“You know, we could really do this ourselves.”

More than 12 months ago, I said those words to Darlene Hill of The Leyda Group - Darlene Hill. At the time, it was simply a conversation between two people who believed Wesley Chapel needed something more.

That conversation became a vision, and that vision became action. And through the dedication of board members, community leaders, volunteers, and supporters, it became yesterday’s grand opening and ribbon cutting for the Wesley Chapel Black Chamber of Commerce.

I strongly believe that when all people have access to the resources, relationships, and opportunities they need to succeed, all ships rise and the entire community benefits.

This moment is a reminder that change does not always begin with a large platform or a perfect plan. Sometimes it begins with two people willing to say yes, take the first step, and invite others to build something impactful.

To our Board, our community leaders, and the many volunteers who helped carry this from an idea to a reality: THANK YOU! Your time, leadership, encouragement, and belief helped turn a conversation into a movement.

And this is only the beginning.
