The latest IRS guidance is that they will be able to fix tax returns that have already been filed and send out checks, with out filing an amended return. Give us a call, if you have any questions.

If your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) is less than $150,000, the American Rescue Plan enacted on March 11, 2021, excludes from income up to $10,200 of unemployment compensation paid in 2020, which means you don’t have to pay tax on unemployment compensation of up to $10,200.

For anyone that has filed a 2020 tax return and reported unemployment benefits, you are entitled to an additional $1,000 on average. They are currently working with the IRS to determine, if there could be some form of automated solution to correct and send out the money. However, it seems likely that you will need to get in here and amend your 2020 tax return to get the cash. As soon as I know more, I'll update everyone.
