Senator Robert Mills has introduced a state bill to decrease the cigar excise tax in Louisiana from 20% to 8%. Thank you, Senator. We will keep a close eye on the bill's progress. Here are the details of the bill:

Louisiana HB 881 has been voluntarily deferred. That means the overreaching bill to ban smoking including cigar shops, cigar bars, and private clubs is dead. Rep. Miller has voluntarily deferred HB 881 until next week(?). This means there will be more discussion on this bill. Friday & Ashley Ellis of Governor's Cigar gave compelling testimony in defense of our industry. LITA, Cigar Association & IPCPR also oppose this bill.

LA HB 881 To Ban Smoking in Cigar Shops, Bars & Private Clubs -

Under the current provisions of this just-proposed house bill, cigar smoking will end in all Louisiana cigar shop, cigar bars and private clubs.
