📊 Each dollar of traditional IRA withdrawal can make up to 85 cents of Social Security taxable.

This creates the tax torpedo. The effective marginal rate can reach 40.7% in what looks like the 22% bracket.

Traditional IRA income also raises MAGI, which determines IRMAA surcharges on Medicare Part B and Part D. Qualified Roth withdrawals do not count toward MAGI.

Roth IRAs and Roth 401(k)s have no required minimum distributions while the original owner is alive. SECURE 2.0 removed the Roth 401(k) RMD requirement starting in 2024.

When one spouse dies, the survivor typically files single the year after. Single brackets are roughly half as wide as joint brackets, which can push the same RMD into a higher rate.

Non-spouse heirs must empty an inherited IRA within 10 years. A traditional IRA is taxed as ordinary income on the way out. A Roth is not.

Two things reverse the math. Paying the conversion tax from the IRA itself reduces the long-term benefit. And if your current marginal rate is higher than what you would pay on the same income later, you prepay tax for nothing.

IRS LETTERS CP53E Notice.

You may have or will receive a letter from IRS requesting updated banking information regarding your refund for direct deposit.

Well there is a mishap. My clients that OWED also received this notice and SHOULD NOT have. ERROR on IRS's glitched system.

DO NOT Panic just call my office and send me the letter you received before you do anything.
