Louisiana voters will see Amendment 4 on the ballot on May 16, 2026.
This amendment focuses on property taxes on business inventory, including merchandise, manufacturing supplies, and production materials.
Note that it does not apply to personal property taxes or your home. This amendment is specifically about business inventory.
Currently, Louisiana’s constitution requires business inventory to be taxed using 15% of fair market value. A YES vote would give parishes the ability to decide whether to keep, reduce, or eliminate the tax. A NO vote would keep the current state-required structure in place.
Supporters say the current tax can disincentivize businesses from operating or expanding in Louisiana and adds complexity to business taxes. Opponents say reducing or eliminating it could impact funding for local services like schools, law enforcement, and infrastructure.
Early voting is May 2 through May 9, excluding Sunday, May 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Election Day is Saturday, May 16, 2026.
As always, our goal is to help you understand what’s on the ballot so you can make an informed decision.
