Not sure this has ever happened in our history. Does anyone know of this being done before:
In a one-page document signed by Attorney General Todd Blanche and dated Tuesday, the Justice Department said the defendants in the president's lawsuit — the IRS and the Treasury Department — are "FOREVER BARRED and PRECLUDED" from "prosecuting or pursuing, any and all claims" that arise out of tax returns filed before the settlement took effect Monday.

Wish I could get that for all my clients (not that any of them need it).

Spread the word, this isn't from one of my clients, but I did have one call yesterday that might fit this:
Recently, the IRS has had major computer glitches.
Anyone else with clients that owed AND the amount owed was withdrawn from their bank account on or around April 15, 2026, are receiving erroneous IRS CP53E Tax Notices / Letters stating:
“ We couldn’t direct deposit your 2025 Form 1040 refund. ”
I even had one client emailed me that they owed but the IRS deposited rather than withholding the exact amount. This one should be interesting other than I think the IRS will soon be asking for that money back plus the amount that was owned.
In other words, this client owed $2K.
IRS deposited $2K into their bank account in a major computer error.
Soon the IRS will be asking for $4K, the $2K deposited in error and the $2K actually owed.

REVIEWING the comments (this is a tax preparer group posting) it appears this is a rampant problem. Please take a minute to make sure you received both your Federal and State refunds and/or either agency did indeed "take" the amount you owed from your account.

Office lights are back to so cold blue. Had that nice warm up tease and now back to burrrr. At least no major white stuff like out East is expecting.

Long time no post. I did a little simple math, the $1,000 to every child born in 2025-2028 will cost the country approx. $10.8 billion. There are approx 3.6 babies born annually times $1,000 time 3 years. This isn't a political note, just a fact I wanted to share.

Thank you all, I reached my goal very quickly, but did stay up a bit for some drone coverage. Weather was windy, but sunny and not too cold. Now back to taxes.

Your assistance in meeting my ransom is desperately needed. Surely you don't want to see an elderly (slightly), thin (not exactly) gentleman stuck on the roof in the cold for a minute longer then necessary. Please send monetary assistance THIS SATURDAY at 3PM Sharp!!!!!!!!!
