Anyone still need help filing their Federal Tax Return for the 2021 tax year? Individual returns are due by October 15, 2022 without you being charged a penalty if you filed for an extension on time. You are still responsible for paying any interest owed on the amount due If you don't owe the IRS any money and are instead expecting a refund you don't need to worry about paying anything for penalties or interest. In fact, in some cases the IRS may actually owe you some interest.
The same concepts described in the above paragraph can also be applied to business income tax returns. The deadline to file for business returns is actually due a month earlier than individual tax returns.
It's always good practice to file for an extension in a timely manner. Especially if you are aware that you are struggling to get everything done in time. This way you avoid being penalized by the IRS. If you want to avoid being charged interest as well, it's a good idea to make estimated tax payments to the IRS throughout the year.
