✨ A reminder I keep coming back to:

At some point, you have to make a decision about who you want to be and how you want to show up in the world — in business, leadership, or life. Once you commit, it’s amazing how many doors open and how much the universe seems to step aside to let you pass.

This quote from Will Smith says it perfectly: “Just decide; what it's gonna be, who you're gonna be and how you're gonna do it, and then from that point, the universe will get out of your way.”

Decide. Commit. Watch what happens next.

The IRS is incorrectly issuing late-filing and late-payment penalties to many Tennessee residents, despite the filing deadline being extended to November 3, 2025, due to severe storms.

If you receive a penalty notice:
✅ Contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040
✅ Explain you live in Tennessee and qualify for the extended deadline
✅ Keep records of who you spoke to, their ID number, the date, and time
✅ Wait for a follow-up letter confirming penalties are removed

Other reasons you may qualify for penalty relief include:
✔️ First-time abatement
✔️ Reasonable cause (based on circumstances)
✔️ Statutory exceptions (e.g., relying on incorrect IRS advice, living in a federal disaster area, or military combat zone)

IRS staffing and system delays mean these errors could continue. Staying proactive and knowing your rights can help protect you from unnecessary penalties.

When in doubt, reach out to a qualified tax professional for guidance.

📉 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗥𝗦 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Big changes are coming. The IRS is planning for major budget and staffing cuts next year:

* 💰 60% cut in tech and operations support staff
* 📞 40% drop in customer service spending
* 📉 Call response rate may plummet from 87% to just 16%

🔁 Combine that with major tax code changes, and we could be looking at:

* Longer wait times
* Delayed refunds
* Heavier compliance risk

✅ Take proactive steps now:
*Avoid being flagged and delayed for identity theft by IRS
* Set up your IRS Online Account
* Get your IP PIN before filing
* Use the Document Upload Tool instead of mailing paperwork
* Be certain your numbers match IRS records

Experts say automation can only go so far — real people still need to review and resolve issues.

Plan ahead now so you’re not stuck later.

One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is that optimism isn’t just wishful thinking — it’s believing we can take action and make things better. That mindset shift has changed how I approach challenges, both in business and in life.

🔍 Overview:

Scams and fraud are sharply rising, with reported losses in 2024 exceeding $12.5 billion to a 25% increase from 2023.

💡 Key Points:

1. Verify Sources to Prevent Scams

Always confirm the legitimacy of information before acting or sharing personal details.

2. Tax Deduction Categories for Scam Losses:

1. Trade or Business Losses:

Losses tied to business property.
Deductible as an ordinary loss on Section B of Form 4684.

2. Transactions Entered Into for Profit:

Losses not tied to a business but involved in profit-seeking activities.
Also deductible under certain rules.

3. 2026 Deduction Rule Change:

Starting January 1, 2026, these losses become deductible again—unless Congress extends the TCJA (Tax Cuts and Jobs Act), which currently disallows them.

4. Non-Deductible Losses:

Losses from kidnapping scams or similar personal circumstances (e.g., sending money out of love or concern) are not deductible, as they're not tied to profit motives.

💼 𝗧𝗮𝘅 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆: 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀!

Did you know hiring your kids can deliver significant tax savings and teach them valuable skills? Here’s how:

✅ Kids working in a parent-owned sole proprietorship or single-member LLC under age 18 aren’t subject to Social Security/Medicare taxes.
✅ Their standard deduction means they generally pay no income tax on earnings up to $15,000 (2025 figure).
✅ Wages paid must be reasonable and reflect actual services performed.
✅ Payments to your children can help fund college or be contributed to an IRA for long-term growth.
✅ Always document hours, keep timesheets, and pay them by W-2 payroll check.
✅ File all required payroll forms (W-4, W-2, 941, 940) and maintain an audit trail.

The IRS allows parents to hire their own children as young as age 7, provided the pay is fair and legitimate. But get the rules right — sloppy documentation or overpaying them could cause the IRS to disallow your deduction.

Teaching your children work ethic while legally reducing your tax bill? That’s a win-win.

Mistakes? I’ve made them. We all have. But every step forward — even the tough ones — teaches us something. What matters most is staying in motion.

Progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about perseverance.

Scammers are getting smarter—and now they’re sending fake IRS emails claiming you're owed a refund or missed stimulus check. These messages look official but are designed to steal your personal and financial info.

🎯 Who are they targeting?
▪️ Paper filers
▪️ Seniors
▪️ Low-income households
▪️ People using online tax software

They’re using fear and false hope to trick people into clicking malicious links.

🛑 Reminder:
The IRS does NOT email or text asking for personal or bank details. Real IRS communication starts by mail.

If you get a suspicious email:
✔️ Don’t click anything
✔️ Forward it to [email protected]
✔️ Delete it and monitor your accounts

Scammers rely on confusion— don’t give them the upper hand. Stay informed, stay cautious.

🏠 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗿-𝗨𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗼 𝗧𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀

✅ You can legally avoid paying income taxes on the gains from selling fixer-upper homes if you meet certain conditions.

✅ By living in the home for at least 2 of the past 5 years, you can exclude up to $500,000 (married) or $250,000 (single) of gain from taxes under the tax-free sale of home rules.

✅ Report the sale correctly if you receive a 1099-S, but you may not owe taxes if you qualify for the exclusion.

✅ Always include an inspection clause in your real estate contract to protect against unforeseen repair costs.

✅ Accurately estimate your repair and renovation expenses and future market value to protect your profit. Add a buffer of 5–10% for unexpected problems.

✅ Financing options like the Fannie Mae HomeStyle loan or FHA 203(k) can help roll renovation costs into a single mortgage.

✅ If traditional lenders won’t finance a property in poor condition, consider seller financing to bypass mortgage company hurdles.

✅ You can repeat this tax-free selling strategy every two years, building wealth while minimizing tax liabilities.

✅ Selling fixer-uppers the smart way can help you keep hundreds of thousands in profit without paying tens of thousands in taxes.

If the IRS collection activity is causing you undue economic hardship, they are legally required to stop.

✅ What Qualifies as Economic Hardship?

* You can’t afford necessary living expenses (housing, food, medical care, etc.)
* A levy prevents you from paying current taxes
* You need assets for health issues, special needs children, or retirement living expenses
* You live in a high cost-of-living area
* You’re facing extraordinary circumstances

📄 How to Prove Hardship:

* Complete Form 433-A (individuals) or 433-B (businesses)
* Submit to the IRS Revenue Officer or ACS
* Use the phrase: "Undue economic hardship"

⛔ If hardship is proven, collection must stop immediately. If they still collect, you can demand a refund.

📌 Even if you haven’t filed all tax returns, the IRS must work with you if you prove hardship.
