Kim Spencer, CFP(r) Take the to Financial Independence! My approach may be different from many planners. I plan to be working with them for many years to come.

I take a personal interest in my client's lives, and assist them in any area they wish. Aside from helping them establish, plan and invest for their life goals, I also work with their other partners; attorneys, tax professionals and insurance agents to ensure they have taken care of all aspects of their financial life.. Another area that's important to me is education; and to that end, I offer se

minars covering different aspects of finance, from senior scams to women and finance, both to my clients and to the community.I also teach Financial Planning for Divorce through UT's Non Credit Program. My clients become part of my family, and one of my greatest joys is working with multiple generations within the same families.

This week's Ask Kim hits close to home for a lot of people.

A reader recently lost their job, and they're wondering if cashing out their 401(k) is the right move to buy themselves a little more breathing room.

It's a question worth thinking through carefully before making any moves.

Memorial Day holds a special place in my heart. I'm reminded today of the deep sacrifice behind this holiday and of the families who carry that loss.

However you're spending the day, I hope you find a moment to remember those who gave everything for this country.

Q1 is in the books, and the market had plenty to say. πŸ“Š

There's encouraging news, a few things worth watching, and some good reminders about why staying the course matters.

I've put together our quarterly market update, and I think it's worth a few minutes of your time. If anything raises questions about your own plan, I'd love to talk.

To every graduate this season: you did it. Now the real adventure begins. πŸŽ“

A few things I wish more young people knew starting out: your income is your most powerful financial tool, so protect it. Student loans have a way of following you longer than expected, so avoid them if possible. And don't wait until you "have more money" to start saving. Start small. Start now. πŸ’›

The best financial foundation isn't complicated. It's consistent. Congratulations, and welcome to the next chapter. 🌱

Happy Earth Day! 🌍

Living in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains reminds me daily how lucky we are to be surrounded by such beauty. The choices we make today shape what we leave behind.

I'm grateful to call this place home. πŸ’š

Financial Literacy Month continues with a tip that's especially important after major life changes. πŸ’™

Tip #3: Understand Your Benefits and Accounts
Do you know what retirement accounts you have? Who's listed as beneficiary on your life insurance? What happens to your 401(k) if you change jobs?

Too many people don't fully understand their own financial assets, or they forget to update beneficiaries after divorce, loss, or other major transitions.

Take time to review what you have, where it is, and who it goes to. πŸ“‹

Financial literacy means knowing your own financial picture inside and out. 🌱

This week's Ask Kim: How do you start over financially when your career took a backseat during marriage? πŸ’”

A reader is facing a possible divorce after years of moving for their spouse's job. They haven't been able to save much and are wondering how to begin anew.

My answer covers understanding marital assets, the importance of full financial disclosure, and what information you need to gather now. Knowledge is power when rebuilding. πŸ’ͺ

Tax season is officially over! πŸ“‹βœ…

Take a moment to breathe. It's done.

Now think about next steps:
πŸ’° Got a refund? Put it toward your emergency fund, debt, or retirement.
πŸ“Š Owed more than expected? Review your withholdings for next year.

Tax season is a useful checkpoint for your financial health. If this year revealed gaps in your plan, let's address them now. πŸ’™

Continuing my Financial Literacy Month series with a tip that can change everything. πŸ’™

Tip #2: Emergency Funds Are Non-Negotiable
Life happens. Car repairs, medical bills, job loss: they're not a matter of if, but when. Having 3-6 months of expenses set aside gives you options and peace of mind.

If that feels overwhelming, start small. Even $500 can keep a crisis from becoming a disaster.

An emergency fund isn't just money. It's breathing room. It's the ability to make decisions from security instead of panic. 🌱
