The annual walk is a special time to honor loved ones and show our commitment to local families living with this disease while supporting research for better treatments and a cure.

The festivities are held rain or shine at the beautiful UT Gardens (2518 Jacob Dr) beginning at 9am on Saturday, April 22. The ribbon cutting and walk begin at 11:15am.

Last night was Career Night at Sequoyah Elementary School. Adam and James were invited to speak to the students about being a financial planner. Adam's wife teaches music at Sequoyah and James lives one block away.

They explained that financial planners help people make wise choices about their money.

Each student was given two nickels and asked to choose a bank to place them: Save, Spend, or Share. Some placed both nickels in one bank while others divided them up.

Curious as to how the youngsters allocated their funds?
52% of the nickels went to Save
30% of the nickels went to Share
18% of the nickels went to Spend

Clearly their parents have been teaching them the right lessons at home!

APC's top tips for Summer!

From Steve: When you're at the pool, the lake, or the beach, always bring extra food and drinks. Who wants to go back inside and away from the water?

From Suzanne: Before going on a road trip, make sure to give your car a tune-up! Change your oil, check your tire pressure, and top off your fluids. Properly inflated tires will help save on gas, and routine maintenance can save you money on costly repairs and, worse, an interruption to your trip.

From Kevin: With the costs of flights and gasoline so high, explore your own backyard! I have spent more time in the Smokies this year, and it's been great. My tip if you go to the wilderness: Bring some bear spray! I ran into a momma and her cubs on Mt. LeConte last week, and I felt totally unprepared. You'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

From Kathy: Maybe this is the year you switch it up by, instead of going on a trip, volunteering! Lots of organizations and churches have special summer programs, camps, and Vacation Bible Schools. Create a special memory with your family by volunteering together!

From James: Don't let a sunburn ruin your trip! Too many times have I gotten burned on the first day. Sunscreen is the second line of defense behind shade, sun hats, UV blocking clothing, etc. Apply, and re-apply!

From Joe: Take every opportunity to eat outside with family and make it an event reflecting the slower side of summer.
