π Understanding Your W-2 Form: Where to Check Your Federal Taxes Withheld!
Hey everyone! π Tax season is here, and one of the most important forms youβll receive from your employer is the W-2 Form. But do you know how to read it properly? Hereβs a quick breakdown! β¬οΈ
What is a W-2 Form?
A W-2 is a tax document that reports your total earnings for the year and how much was withheld for federal, state, and other taxes. Employers must send this form by January 31st to all employees who earned wages during the year.
Where to Look for Federal Taxes Withheld?
π§ To check how much was taken out for federal taxes, look at:
β
Box 1 β Total taxable wages (This is your earnings minus pre-tax deductions like 401(k) or health insurance).
β
Box 2 β Federal income tax withheld (This is how much was deducted from your paycheck for federal taxes).
β
Box 3 & 4 β Social Security wages & tax withheld.
β
Box 5 & 6 β Medicare wages & tax withheld.
Why Is This Important?
If too much was withheld, you could get a refund π°
If too little was withheld, you might owe taxes π¬
Understanding your W-2 helps you plan better for next yearβs taxes!
π Pro Tip: Always compare your W-2 with your final paycheck stub to ensure accuracy. If anything looks incorrect, contact your employer ASAP!
