This is why you can’t get through to the IRS!

According to Edward S. Karl CPA, CGMA Vice President of Taxation, IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig testified at a recent Congressional hearing that, in the busiest part of this year’s filing season, IRS call assistors received 1,500 calls a second. That translates into the IRS answering only 2% of all calls. No, that is not a typo. That’s why 69% of our survey respondents indicated that they had received a “courtesy disconnect,” while another 23% of the respondents didn’t have the time to stay on hold for extended periods.

Warning! I just received news from a client that they just had an unexpected deposit from the IRS in their bank account. It appears as though they are receiving a double payment of their third round stimulus payment. If this happens to you, YOU DON"T GET TO KEEP THAT MONEY!!! Please be aware that these things are happening and you need to keep track of how much and when the IRS gives you money. You need to know if and how much needs to be returned to the IRS. Advanced child tax credit payments will begin this summer and you will be receiving more money from the IRS. These payments are not another stimulus payment and will be deducted on your tax return next year. I will step off my soapbox now. I just want you all to be aware of what is going on!

As always call me if you have questions!

The Internal Revenue Service says it will not require taxpayers who have received excess advance premium tax credits for 2020 to file Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit. The American Rescue Plan Act retroactively exempts those amounts from being taxed.

If you have already filed, and you received unemployment benefits, you may automatically receive your refund. Stay tuned - the IRS is deciding how to handle it.
