Catanese Group

Catanese Group This is our company page where we highlight events, outings, and professional updates. In 1984, a Pittsburgh Office was opened.

The Catanese Group story began in 1946 when our founders opened an accounting firm in New York City. Twelve years later, the first client was engaged in Johnstown, PA and by the mid 1970's, eight significant clients existed in the Johnstown area. Sam Catanese joined the organization in June of 1976 as the Firm continued to grow. During the latter part of the seventies, Carl Vulcan and Peter Shr

ift joined the Firm and all became partners during the 1980's. Joseph DeYulis became a partner in 1993 and Kathleen Wallace became a partner in 2006. In 1998, the Catanese Group became affiliate with CPAmerica International, a network consisting of more than 80 independent CPA firms employing more than 2,500 professionals operating from nearly 150 offices throughout the United States. CPAmericas strategic alliance with Crowe Horwath International, one of the 10 largest international networks of independent accounting and advisory service firms, provides worldwide business and financial resources, referral options and information to CPAmerica members. Today, the Catanese Group has defined specializations in several areas including retail, real estate, professional services, not-for-profit, governmental, healthcare and legal services. At the present time, a total of five partners and 23 staff members make up the Johnstown and Pittsburgh offices of the Catanese Group including a firm administrator and technology manager. As a testament to our long-term commitment to our clients, many of these same individuals who helped to establish the Johnstown-based firm are still part of our client base today. We invite you to join us and grow with us. With our vision for the future firmly rooted in tradition, by partnering with our Firm, the Catanese Group offers you the opportunity to create your own legacy for future generations.

Be on the lookout for IRS scams—know the red flags!

Scammers often pretend to be the Internal Revenue Service, but here’s what the IRS WON'T do:

❌ Call or text you demanding immediate payment
❌ Email you asking for personal or financial info
❌ Threaten arrest or legal action over the phone
❌ Ask for payment via gift cards, crypto, or wire transfer

The IRS typically contacts taxpayers by mail first.

If something feels off, it probably is. When in doubt, don’t respond—reach out to your CPA for further advice.

Fast Fact Friday: Here's how to check the status of your IRS refund!

The easiest way is to use the “Where’s My Refund?” tool from the Internal Revenue Service.

You’ll just need:
✔️ Your Social Security Number or ITIN
✔️ Your filing status
✔️ The exact refund amount from your return

Note: If you already have an account with IRS.gov, simply login and you can check without filling out all the above information.

The tool will show if your return is received, approved, or sent.

You can check your refund status here:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Most refunds are issued within 21 days of e-filing.

If you have questions about your return or refund, we’re here to help.

Check your refund status 24 hours after you e-file or 4 weeks after you mail a paper return. Check in your account or use the refund tracker, IRS2Go or the refund hotline.
