If you've ever been on the receiving end of an IRS audit notice, you know this heart-sinking feeling all too well.

For me, it's another day at the office! I've seen my fair share of audits; sometimes, clients just randomly get selected.

For this business owner, here's what we did:

We immediately gathered all documentation related to [audit topic]. We double-checked and cross-referenced each number to make sure our arguments were air-tight! 🧾

Then, when the auditor wanted to chat, my client was able to feel 100% confident answering their questions.

And that was all it took! 🀷

Evidence provided, audit closed, waaay less stress than navigating a whole IRS audit alone.

At D&P Financial, we back up our work. If your return is ever audited for something we prepared, we’ll guide you through the process and provide the documentation and support you need every step of the way.

I found over $3k in duplicated income the month one of my client's bank accounts un-synced from TaxDome... 😳

That's the kind of mistake where if you aren't reconciling (matching your bookkeeping to your statements), you would've overstated your income and paid waaay more in taxes.

It's the kind of thing that isn't always super obvious, but it's why I insist that EVERYONE reconcile their accounts on a regular basis.

Reconciling helps you flag those duplicate, missing, or simply wrong transactions before they become bigger issues! πŸ’Έ

If you want clean books by this summer, here's your to-do list ↓

Hire a bookkeeper (preferably me!!). πŸ“š

It'll take you like two seconds (read: 5 minutes) to fill out my New Client form.

Then, if you start working with me in May, here's what I'll do for you:

β†’ run a full diagnostic to see what's going on behind-the-scenes in your books

β†’ get you fully onboarded so that I have all the access + data I need for your file

β†’ clean up + reconcile your accounts so that your financials are *actually* useful

β†’ create a game plan to keep your bookkeeping caught up from here on out

Hot business owner don't spend their summers worrying about bookkeeping!

If your business isn't having these conversations with you now... You could be limiting the tax planning strategies that you have in your arsenal.

The longer you wait to tax plan (especialllly if you wait until after year-end), the fewer options you have.

If you're a business owner who's ready to get proactive about your taxes, use the link in my bio to schedule your tax planning session this month! πŸ“†

A business owner came to me recently because she'd been DIYing her books, but she felt like she had ZERO understanding of what her numbers meant.

She was wondering things, like:

Could she actually afford to invest in that new coaching programβ€”or would it put unnecessary pressure on her cash flow?

And was she saving enough to cover her tax bill?

Plus, she'd been pretty much just accepting where QuickBooks wanted to categorize her expenses, but she wasn't totally sure they were accurate.

That's where I came in!

I took a look at her books, found some *major* red flags in categorization that were going to make her miss out on tax write-offs, and got her books into a spot where we both felt confident her financial statements were accurate.

When we ran her P&L, we were able to answer her questions (and spoiler, she was totally under-saving for taxes).

Moral of the story: Hiring me not only got this business owner books caught up, but also meant she could course-correct on her tax savings *before* it became a bigger issue.

Please, please, pleaseee don't just rush through your W-4 on the first day at a new job!

It's not just an onboarding task; it's telling your employer how much federal tax to take from your paycheck.

Filling out your W-4 correctly is the difference between not owing at tax time and getting hit with a surprise bill (or unnecessary refund). πŸ’Έ

If you want a little extra help, use the IRS's Tax Withholding Estimator to really dial in your W-4.

Business owner, my best tax advice is to make sure your business is set up to work *for* you, not cost you money in the background. πŸ’Έ

It all starts with your entity! The IRS treats sole proprietorships, LLCs, and S corporations differently from a tax perspective, so the "best" setup is going to depend on your unique business.

I also want to make sure you have a solid bookkeeping system in place that's actually capturing all of your income and expenses. πŸ“š

And finally, I think you should be working with an accountant who understands the ins + outs of your business. There's a big difference between generic tax prep and a strategy based on the common expenses, credits, and pain points for business owner.

I'm taking you behind-the-scenes on exactly what I did for one of my clients this month ↓

I started by importing and categorizing all of her transactions from her bank account, credit card, and PayPal. πŸ’³

I cleaned up duplicated income from PayPal to make sure we weren’t overstating her revenue.

I reclassified any personal expenses to make sure those didn't show up on her P&L.

Then, I reconciled (matched) each of her accounts to its most recent statement. 🏦

As my final step for every [your niche], I ran her monthly financial reports, flagged anything that stood out to me, and sent her a summary email with all of my findings! πŸ“Š

Every business owner deserves to understand exactly what happened in their business. I can give that to you!
