With just one week to go until the Maine State Bar Association’s 135th Anniversary Gala & Silent Auction, we wanted to take a moment to recognize Spruce Mountain Wealth Management as our Justice Champion sponsor.

Their generous support at our highest sponsorship level is helping make this special celebration possible. Thank you to Spruce Mountain Wealth Management for supporting the legal community and the important work of the MSBA, the Campaign for Justice, and the Maine Justice Foundation.

Recapping two important events from the last few weeks - the annual KV Connect Channel Your Flannel fundraiser and the Ameriprise Women Advisor Summit in Orlando, FL. It was an incredible experience to be a part of these events and to be surrounded by so many passionate individuals who are committed to making a difference in their communities.

At the Channel Your Flannel fundraiser, we raised money for the Kennebec Valley United Way’s Keep ME Warm Fund, which supports a family in our community with heating assistance. It was heartwarming to see so many people come together for such a great cause.

The Ameriprise Women Advisor Summit was equally inspiring. I feel blessed to work for a company that invests in and supports women, and is committed to closing the gap of female advisors in the industry. It was amazing to be surrounded by 500 women who share a common goal of empowering each other and our clients.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the year and all that it has to offer! ✨💬

✨ Things you should know ✨

Individual income tax rates are set to revert to pre-Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA) brackets and rates (2017 rates).

What does this mean? Essentially that you should be prepared for your income taxes to go up in 2026 (see image below).

I have found that most people are content with saving in tax-deferred accounts like Traditional IRAs, 401ks, 403bs, etc. until I show them what their taxes will look like in retirement and when they have to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).

I show scenarios of how putting away all tax-deferred money will impact their taxes in the future vs creating an investing strategy that gives them some flexibility and control on when the IRS gets their cut.

While every client situation is different, what I do know for certain is that 📣you should be having tax planning conversations with your financial advisor📣

Some strategies I have been using with clients to integrate tax planning into their portfolios are:

• Tax loss harvesting
• Roth contributions/conversions
• Tax sensitive portfolios
• Alternative investments
• Working closely with their accountant

Are you a public sector employee of the State of Maine, local school district, or municipality? Chances are you pay into MainePERS (state retirement pension) but don’t pay into Social Security. What happens if you are paying into both?

I have found myself helping more and more clients who don’t know exactly what their MainePERS benefits are and how they could impact their Social Security, or their ability to claim their spousal or widow benefits from Social Security.

Most members of these plans do not pay Social Security contributions, and therefore do not earn Social Security credits.

However, if you have fallen under both plans at some point or plan to change industries, the Social Security Administration has two offsets—windfall elimination provisions and government pension offset—that are applied to your Social Security benefit when you retire.

I encourage you to work with a professional who can help you understand your benefits and what your retirement income will look like, so you have ample time to plan accordingly. Don’t just count on these government programs, take initiative to set yourself up well!

“Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

Despite what you see in these pictures, this summer I’ve been busy building a business, welcoming new clients, and teaching current clients about my new products and services.

I am blessed to be working with people who support a healthy work/life balance, making it so much easier to show up everyday and love what you do and why you do it 🌅🤍
