Year-end tax planning tip: the 2026 401(k) limit is $24,500 — and the clock runs out December 31.
Pre-tax (traditional) retirement contributions can lower the income you're taxed on this year while you save for later. A quick check-in now can make a real difference before the year closes.
âś… 401(k)/403(b): up to $24,500 for 2026. Employee deferrals generally have to come out of paychecks by year-end, so ask payroll about a bump for your last few checks.
✅ Age 50+: an extra $8,000 catch-up (ages 60–63: $11,250 instead).
âś… IRA: up to $7,500 ($1,100 more at 50+). You have until your filing deadline (not including extensions) to contribute for 2026. Self-employed? A SEP can be set up and funded by your return's due date, including extensions.
Not sure how to use the 2026 401(k) limit alongside an IRA or SEP? Let's look at it together.
