A common mistake small business owners make is seeing a payment leave their bank account for a business loan or vehicle financing and assuming it reduces their taxes. Unfortunately, it does not work that way. There is a huge difference between an Expense and a Liability:

An Expense is money spent on day-to-day operations (like software or marketing). This does lower your taxable profit.

A Liability is debt. When you pay down the principal on a loan, you are just returning borrowed money. This does not lower your taxes.

The Exception: Only the interest portion of that payment is a tax deduction. The principal payment is not. If you have been tracking entire loan payments as expenses, your profit numbers and tax estimates are off. Need help tracking everything? That's what I'm here for. Click the link below.

It’s graduation season, and teens are about to enter a new phase in life. Setting good money habits now will mean more than that big salary later.

Parents, this is a great time to have the “boring money talks”, and to share a reminder that credit cards are tools and not free money. A couple of things to remember:

- Check your bank account regularly
- Learn the difference between wants and needs
- Start saving early, even if it’s small

Small habits add up to big success.

So thrilled with the positive feedback since launching the official website of The Pine Ledger. Thank you for the shares and page views, and I’m looking forward to making valuable connections with future clients.

Now it’s time to put a face behind the name - Hey there, I’m Rebecca. I started The Pine Ledger to help bridge a gap for small business owners. So many people are skilled in their trade, passionate about their work, and dedicated to providing the best possible service for their customers. Managing cash flow, staying on top of bills, and being prepared for tax season often falls to the bottom of the list.

Sometimes you don’t need a full-time employee. You just need the right support at the right time. That’s where I step in. I’m happy to partner with you to help ease the burden while helping you feel more confident and informed along the way. If you’re not sure where to start, view my website and different services I have to offer. I’d love to have a conversation about what would best fit your needs. Talk soon ✍️

Starting a business is exciting…until the “wait, I have to do WHAT?” phase kicks in…

A few things new business owners should think about early:

• LLC vs Sole Proprietor
• Payroll setup and payroll taxes
• Sales tax requirements
• Quarterly tax payments
• Business bank accounts
• Keeping personal and business expenses separate
• Bookkeeping systems that actually make sense
• Insurance, licenses, and registrations
• Knowing what you can write off… and what you can’t

The good news? I’m here to help.

Getting set up correctly from the beginning can save you a lot of stress, penalties, and cleanup later on. I can assist with bookkeeping, payroll, tax prep, LLC filings, and getting your business organized from day one.

Tell your friends to tell their friends. 😉

It’s been a little quiet over here… and that usually means I’m up to something…

It’s been busy behind the scenes. Books are getting cleaned up, new clients are getting dialed in, and systems are getting tighter. And just for fun, a few updates are in the works 👀

If your numbers have been sitting there like “we’ll deal with this later”… this is later.

No judgment, no stress…you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Shoot me a message or give me a call if you need help. And if you know someone who’s been meaning to get organized, send them my way.

Every community group has one… the brave volunteer who gets handed the treasurer role.

Usually right after someone says, “You’re good with numbers, right?”

PTOs, booster clubs, church committees, and local nonprofits run on volunteers, and the treasurer job can quietly turn into more than people expect…

Tracking deposits.
Reconciling bank statements.
Keeping records organized for the board.
Making sure everything passes cleanly to the next person when leadership rotates.

One approach some organizations are starting to use is having their volunteer treasurer partner with an independent bookkeeper to maintain the books and produce clear reports for the board.

The treasurer stays in control of the finances, but they’re not stuck doing all the back-end accounting work alone.

It keeps everything organized, transparent, and makes transitions a lot easier when leadership changes.

If your group has ever said “we really need to get our books a little more organized,” there are actually some pretty simple ways to do it.
