Important Update Regarding IRS Refunds
The IRS has changed how refund checks are processed. Under new procedures, taxpayers are strongly encouraged to receive refunds by direct deposit.
If direct deposit information is not provided, the IRS will delay the refund by at least six (6) weeks. After the tax return is accepted, the IRS will issue Notice CP53E, requesting banking information to complete the refund.
If a taxpayer is unable or unwilling to provide direct deposit information, or qualifies for a limited exception, a paper check may be requested. In these cases, the taxpayer must select “Paper Check,” and a Taxpayer Direct Deposit Statement will be generated to document this choice.
