Tax planning is most effective when it’s proactive.

Recent updates to the U.S. tax code increased the Section 179 deduction limit to $2.5 million for 2025, with the phase-out beginning once total qualifying purchases exceed $4 million. Businesses can expense a larger portion of eligible assets—such as equipment, software, and technology—placed in service this year.

Additionally, Section 168(k) reinstated 100% bonus depreciation for qualifying property acquired and placed in service after January 19, 2025, while assets purchased before that date remain subject to the reduced 40% rate.

These provisions allow businesses to deduct more upfront, improving cash flow and reducing taxable income. To benefit, purchases must be placed in service by December 31, 2025 and meet IRS business-use requirements.

FBP helps Illinois businesses evaluate these rules and plan strategically for year-end deductions, equipment financing, and timing considerations.

The last quarter sets the tone for how smoothly tax season begins. As you close Q3 and head into Q4, take time to:

✔️ Reconcile and clean up accounts
✔️ Revisit Section 179 and bonus depreciation opportunities
✔️ Align payroll, owner compensation, and retirement planning

Strong recordkeeping now means fewer adjustments later — and a clearer financial picture heading into 2026.

FBP can help you identify missed deductions and fine-tune your year-end strategy.
