Here are three steps to help maximize tour 2026 mileage deduction

Whether you’re using the actual expense or the standard mileage rate method you will need to know

🏁Your beginning mileage
⚠️Your total business mileage
🛑 The total miles driven for the year.

Step 1. If you haven’t done it already, record your beginning mileage today.

Step 2. To help track overall mileage for the year I suggest using the “B” setting on your tripometer (that’s what we’re calling it today 😉). Set it to zero today and leave it. By the end of the year it will have recorded the total mileage for overall use of the vehicle.

Step 3. Keep a contemporaneous record of all business mileage. You can use a spreadsheet, write it manually or use an app. I personally prefer using apps. A good mileage app will not only help track your mileage, but it will also have a space to record the date and business purpose of the trip.

The standard business mileage rate for 2026 is 72.5 cents per mile! That can add up to be a sizable business deduction, but you have to track it. Start today.

Huge Announcement! Our Firm Storehouse Bookkeeping & Tax is now helping taxpayers get IRS tax relief! IRS problems are a very personal type of problem and people often do not know where to turn for help, especially during times like these.

Many people live with their back tax problem for months and sometimes years, assuming that nothing can be done about it. It’s easy for good, hard-working Americans to fall behind. Providing IRS Tax help to North Alabama was a natural evolution for us at Storehouse Bookkeeping & Tax.

I have come across many people who have attempted to handle their IRS situation themselves with their tax preparer, but didn’t receive the relief they were seeking.

My firm now handles IRS representation services, which include: Preparation of Unfiled Income Tax Returns, Penalty Reduction, Offers in Compromise, Payment Plans, Financial Hardship Plans, Wage Garnishment/Bank Levy Releases, Audits, and IRS Appeals.

We’ll listen to your IRS difficulties face-to-face, or via Zoom, in complete confidence at NO CHARGE. We’ll answer your questions, explain your options, suggest solutions, and provide you with a written estimate of our fees to permanently resolve your IRS difficulties. Send us a private message or check out our website at https://storehousefms.com/services/.

Smile

People judge who you are long before they hear what you do.

Your presence speaks louder than any resume ever will.

A genuine smile disarms, your personality opens doors, and the way you treat people determines whether they ever want to walk back through those doors again.

Success isn’t just about skills, it’s about connection.

Make others feel valued, respected, and seen, and they’ll remember you long after the conversation ends.

Your character is your real brand, so make sure it’s something worth talking about.

🚨 Attention Business Owners!

Did you know you can deduct a portion of your home expenses** if you work from home?

The Home Office Deduction can help reduce your taxable income, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

✅ Eligibility: Your home office must be used regularly and exclusively for business.
✅ Direct Expenses: Office supplies, furniture, and repairs for your office space are 100% deductible!
✅ Indirect Expenses: Rent, utilities, insurance, and mortgage interest can be partially deducted based on the percentage of your home used for business.

💡 There are two methods for calculating:
1. Simplified Method: $5 per square foot of your home office, up to 300 sq. ft. (max. $1,500).
2. Regular Method: Deduct a percentage of your total home expenses (rent, utilities, etc.) based on the size of your office.

💵 Make sure to keep those receipts and track your space carefully!

🤔 Question: My business is an LLC. Are my taxes due on March 15th or April 15th?**

💡 Answer: The IRS doesn't directly recognize LLCs (since they're state entities). Instead, it acknowledges sole proprietorships (single-owner), partnerships (multiple owners), and corporations, including S-corporations.

While LLCs can be formed as sole proprietorships or partnerships, the IRS follows the default tax rules for those structures. Here’s how it breaks down:

- Single-owner LLC: Taxes are due April 15th
- Partnership LLC: Taxes are due March 15th

Make sure you know your structure to avoid missing your deadline!
