⚠️ New USPS rule: a postmark now reflects the date your mail is processed — not necessarily the day you drop it off.

📬 If you’re mailing a tax return, make sure your envelope is:
✅ Properly addressed
✅ Has enough postage
✅ Postmarked by the due date

💡 Tip: Have a clerk postmark it at the counter.

Watch out for a scam email that may read, ‘Notification of IRS Audit & Investigation.’ The email may direct you to download a “secure” file (in some cases via sites like Cognito Forms) and submit documentation, but in fact the link leads to a fraudulent site that may steal your data or install malware. Taxpayers are receiving fake text messages claiming you can “check your refund status.” The links only work on mobile devices and are designed to steal your information. Do not click them!

⚠️ The Oklahoma Tax Commission does not currently send text messages encouraging taxpayers to check their refund statuses.

If you receive one of these texts:
✅ Delete it immediately
✅ Do not open the link
✅ Contact us directly for peace of mind

The Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) has been made aware of a fraudulent phone scam involving an outdated toll-free number (as shown on outdated business cards).

⚠️ When taxpayers call 1-844-423-2864, they are told to make a payment & promised a gift card in return.
👉 The OTC will never offer gift cards for paying taxes.

✅ To protect yourself:
• Do NOT call the toll-free number listed.
• Only use official contact numbers and resources found on our website: www.tax.ok.gov.
