The IRS has released the portal to allow taxpayers to unenroll in the advanced child tax payments, if they choose
If you don’t opt out, you will automatically receive the child tax credit in the form of advance payments spread out over the next 6 mos
I recommend saying enrolled if you usually get a very large refund and you’re ok with spreading that refund out over the year
If you usually get little to no refund, usually owe at tax time, or you started or have profitable self employed income with no withholding or estimated payments, I recommend unenrolling
If you choose to stay enrolled and receive the advance payments, please be aware that these payments are not “free money” they are an advance payments of a credit you have already been receiving if you have children under 17. If you take the advance payments, your refund will be lower, barring no other new credits
Here is the IRS link to the portal:

If you have been waiting... and waiting... for your refund, you’re not alone! Millions of taxpayers refunds are being held due to “manual processing”

Almost 31 million returns are being held for manual review, delaying refunds. "I depend on that money," one taxpayer says.

About Me

I have lived in the Hot Springs area most of my life. When I graduated high school, I attended National Park College (National Park Community College at the time) then Henderson State University where I received my Bachelors in Business Administration Accounting degree. I married my husband, Brandon, the summer between my junior and senior years at Henderson. During that time, I worked at a tax office preparing individual tax returns. Upon graduation, I started working at a local manufacturing company in the accounting department, doing mostly accounts receivable and billing. I stayed at Henderson for another year and earned my MBA with an accounting focus.

After that, I started working at a small accounting firm doing small business accounting and bookkeeping, payroll, and tax return preparation.

I stayed at that firm for five years. During that time, our son Brayden was born and I decided to stay home as much as possible to take care of him while working part time at the same firm. We had our second child, Harper, during this time.

I have since moved on from the firm and have been doing freelance accounting for several different business in the local area and other states. I have experience with business in many different industries in over six states. My goal is to take the experience I have gained in the different positions I have held and use it to serve small businesses and families.
