With the current COVID-19 crisis going on everyone has been impacted tremendously. American businesses are feeling a tremendous impact. Here at Rich Munroe, CPA we have gathered some helpful tips we are hoping can help business owners during this difficult time.
Recently President Trump was able to secure 350 Billion in federal loans for small business called the "Paycheck Protection Program."
There will be 1,800 approved lenders that will be processing small business loans. One thing you can do is contact your bank to see if they are an SBA approved lender. If your bank is not an SBA approved lender you can contact the SBA to find one at 1-800-827-5722. You can also apply through any federally insured depository institution, federally insured credit union, and Farm Credit System institution that is participating.
Starting April 3, 2020, small businesses and sole proprietorship can apply for and receive loans to cover their payroll and other certain expenses through existing SBA lenders.
Starting April 10, 2020, independent contractors and self-employed individuals can apply for and receive loans to cover their payroll and other certain expenses through existing SBA lenders.
Loan amounts can be forgiven as long as they meet the following criteria:
- The loan proceeds are used to cover payroll costs, and most mortgage interest, rent, and utility costs over the 8 week period after the loan is made
- Employee and compensation levels are maintained
Along with the completed Paycheck Protection Loan application you will also need to provide your lender along with payroll documentation.
You will owe money on your loan if you use your loan for anything other than payroll costs, mortgage interest, rent, and utilities payments over the 8 weeks after getting the loan and if you do not maintain your staff and payroll.
Loan payments interest is deferred for 6 months but interest continues to accrue over this time. Payments are due in 2 years.
All information used is gathered and can be referred on the SBA website under Paycheck Protection Program. If you have any further questions I recommend this website for clarification on your specific business needs.
