Did you know that in 2024, a worker died from a work-related injury every 104 minutes? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were also 2.5 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses that same year. The good news is that number is trending down, but it's a reminder that workplace safety and workers' comp coverage can't be ignored. May is National Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month. While most people are worried about pollen and pets, we want to talk about a different kind of allergy. It's the kind you can develop on the job. Occupational allergies are more common than you might think, especially in industries like construction, forestry, and sanitation. Sawdust, chemical adhesives, concrete dust, mold. Workers can literally become allergic to their own job! It's not exactly a reason to call in sick, but it is a reason to take workplace exposure seriously. Good safety practices and proper workers' comp coverage exist for exactly this kind of situation.
