Big tax-season heads up for anyone who earned overtime (OT) in 2025:

The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) was passed on July 4, 2025, and it didn’t leave the IRS much time to update the 2025 Form W-2. As a result, overtime reporting on W-2s may be inconsistent, which can make claiming the related deduction more challenging.

A few employers have been listing overtime in Box 14, but in our experience this filing season, that’s been the exception—not the rule.

Because this deduction can be substantial, we strongly recommend you:
✅ Print your final 2025 pay stub and include it with your tax documents.
Even if you’re salaried, your year-end pay statement often shows total overtime paid for the year, which helps us support your tax filing.

If you are in the federal disaster area due to Hurricane Helena, be sure to keep good records for expenses associated with the storm as they may be needed by your insurance company and/or to obtain federal and state assistance both of which could require you to substantiate the costs. These would include invoices for repairs, miscellaneous receipts for items needed due to the storm, pictures of any damage, etc.

In addition, theft & casualty losses, in excess of insurance and/or other assistance you may receive, could also be deductible on your tax return. Your tax preparer will need a summary of these costs, and you will need to have the receipts to prove the deductions.

IR-2024-253, Oct. 1, 2024 — The Internal Revenue Service today announced disaster tax relief for all individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Helene, including the entire states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina and parts of Florida, Tennessee and Virginia.

Due the amount of work that is expected to transpire throughout the county by NCDOT & utility crews in the days to come, in addition to the current fuel shortage, we have closed our office and asked our staff to stay at home. We feel this is the best way to lessen the load on an already stressed system.

We will however be available by phone and email to assist in processing your payroll if you do not have internet access as we want to be sure your employees receive their paychecks no matter the circumstances.

With the worst of the storm to come in overnight combined with the already flooded roads in the area, our office will be closed on Friday, September 27th out an abundance of caution for our employees safety.

Another tax season comes to a close and although exhausting, this has been one of the best years our business has experienced. I want to take a moment to thank all of the people that made this year a huge success. First, a shout out to our clients, who's unwavering support and referrals allows us the privilege to do what we love, without you, there would be no business. To my wonderful staff, I appreciate you so much for tirelessly performing each day, without complaint, to ensure that our customers get the service they deserve while keeping a great attitude. And finally, my good friend and mentor, Jonathan Tweit, who at 77 years young, continues to perform at a level higher than most half his age.
