DMT Bookkeeping & Tax Services, LLC Debra Thomas, EA
www.dmtbookkeeping.com Hello my name is Debbie Thomas, EA and I absolutely love what I do.

I have a passion for learning everything I can about the tax law so I can help my clients save time and money. I graduated with a Degree in Business: IT & Accounting. I am an Enrolled Agent (EA) – [federally licensed tax practitioner] and a National Registered Bookkeeper (NRB) which both are required to adhere to ethical standards and complete continuing education courses yearly. Hold on friends

I’m not finished because I am also a Continuing Education Course Writer, QuickBooks Pro Advisor and I am a Volunteer for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program). You can see how I continually stay up to date on every aspect of my profession. You should be able to call your tax professional anytime of the year, not just during the tax season. Tax planning is permanent it's something that should always be in place. There is a lot I can offer, but you have to be ready to take that step.

IRS CP53E notices are causing major confusion for taxpayers and tax professionals. Some notices may be legitimate, some may be scams, and some were reportedly sent in error — even to taxpayers who owe money.

If you receive one, do NOT scan the QR code. Instead, log directly into your IRS account at IRS.gov to verify the notice, contact your tax preparer, or call the IRS directly.

If you do not respond and you are actually due a refund, the IRS says your check will be mailed within 6 weeks.

IRS REFUND ALERT – DON’T MISS THIS

A recent federal court case, Kwong v. United States, could mean the IRS owes YOU money.

During COVID, tax deadlines may have actually been paused longer than the IRS applied. That means:

✔ You may be able to get penalties and interest refunded.
✔ You may still qualify for a 2022 refund (even if you think it’s too late).
✔ You may be able to reduce balances owed.

This applies if you:
• Filed late between 2020–2023
• Paid IRS penalties or interest
• Still need to file past returns

⏳ Deadline to act: July 10, 2026

After that, your refund could be gone for good.

A lot of businesses will go back to, “You’ll get your packages in 7 - 10 business days.” 😉😄

⚠️ Don’t miss your money! ⚠️

If you still haven’t filed your 2022 tax return and are expecting a refund, here’s what you need to know:

📅 The deadline is April 20, 2026 (not April 15 like usual!)

Why?
Because the original tax deadline in 2023 was pushed to April 18, and when the 3-year refund window ends on a weekend, it moves to the next business day.

💡 Important:
- Filing an extension did NOT extend your refund deadline
- If you miss this date, your refund is gone forever

📬 Mailing it?
Make sure it’s postmarked by April 20, 2026 to count!

Don’t leave your money on the table. File before it’s too late

04/15/2026

Be kind today… some folks are finding out they owe the IRS! 💚

If you haven’t filed yet, go ahead and submit that extension to avoid the late filing penalty. And if you think you might owe, make a payment now—paying something is always better than getting hit with extra penalties later.

Tax Update: Mississippi Moving Toward Zero State Income Tax

On March 27, 2025, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed the Build Up Mississippi Act (HB 1), beginning a phased elimination of the state’s individual income tax.

📉 Scheduled rate reductions:
• 2026 – 4.0%
• 2027 – 3.75%
• 2028 – 3.5%
• 2029 – 3.25%
• 2030 – 3.0%
➡️ Future reductions are planned until the rate reaches 0%, based on revenue benchmarks.
The legislation also lowers the grocery tax from 7% to 5%.
From a tax planning perspective, this could influence relocation decisions, business growth, and long-term financial strategies across the region.
💬 As tax laws continue to change, staying informed is key to making smart financial decisions.

No Tax on Overtime — Quick Clarification
Yes, a law was passed — but overtime is NOT tax-free on your paycheck.

✔ Overtime is still taxed during the year
✔ Payroll still withholds federal, state, and F**A
✔ W-2s still include overtime in wages

👉 The benefit happens when you file your 2025 tax return as a deduction, and only the overtime premium portion may qualify.
If your paycheck looks the same — that’s normal.

If your W-2 looks confusing — talk to a tax pro before filing. (EA, CPA or Tax Attorney)
