Reminder: Scholarship Deadline is March 31st.
"In a world focused on getting ahead, there are always gimmicks claiming that you can “get rich fast!” or “cheat the system to work for you”. If it was that easy, why isn’t everyone rich and successful? It seems that there must be more to financial freedom than one quick trick or some secret passcode. In fact, it mainly comes down to life long habits that will both save money and make money. The sooner these habits are learned, the freer we can be. Financial literacy is not only important in high school but necessary for success in life. Big Congrats to Riley Joyner, a 2025 Good Wealth Management Scholarship Winner! 🎉 Riley, a proud Spotswood High School grad, is off to the University of Virginia this fall to study biology on a pre-med track, aiming to chase her dream of becoming an orthopedic physician assistant. Following in her mom’s UVA footsteps, she’s pumped for the awesome academics! For the past couple of years, she’s been working part-time to save up for college, showing some serious money smarts. At UVA, Riley’s ready to hit the books hard and maybe even join some intramural sports for fun.

Her tips for younger highschoolers? Work hard, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and give your best in academics, finances, and extracurriculars. Riley’s Money-Saving Advice:

On Scholarships: Actively seek out local scholarships and community resources to help pay for college.

On Budgeting: Save up for big stuff like college and skip the unnecessary splurges.

On Credit Cards: Be smart—only spend what you can pay back to stay out of debt trouble.

On Student Loans: Select colleges and career paths that align future earnings with manageable loan repayments.

Congratulations to Charlie Loucks, a recent graduate of Redeemer Classical School, who will be attending Virginia Tech this fall! In a brief conversation, Charlie shared his personal journey and offered valuable advice to younger highschoolers:

On Early Saving Habits: Encouraged by his parents, Charlie began saving at age five, following Dave Ramsey’s method of allocating 10% to charity, 20% to savings, and 70% to spending. He stressed the importance of starting to save early to leverage the power of compound interest over time.

On Credit Cards: Charlie uses a credit card responsibly to build a strong credit history. He emphasized the need for timely payments and understanding that credit cards can be a helpful tool or a financial burden if mismanaged.

On Student Loans: Charlie believes student loans can be beneficial with a clear college plan but noted that college isn’t for everyone. Financial decisions should align with individual goals and circumstances.

On the Good Wealth Management Scholarship: Charlie highly recommends the scholarship to rising seniors, encouraging them to take the time to write the essay and apply for this valuable opportunity.
