02/02/2026

02-01-26 IRS strongly encourages taxpayers to use direct deposit for tax year 2025 income tax refunds and beyond. IRS advises that paper check refunds may take as much as six to seven additional weeks to process moving the total paper check refund receipt time to, approximately, 10 weeks from the IRS acceptance date. IRS will send notices to those taxpayers who do not opt for direct deposit advising of this new policy and we expect IRS to completely phase out paper checks within the next 2-3 years.

Our office can provide refund receipt options to help avoid this refund receipt delay for those taxpayers who do not currently use direct deposit or who do not have a standard checking account.

01/20/2026

01-20-26 IRS has announced that 2025 individual Federal tax refunds that are via paper check (not direct deposited) are likely to be delayed. We strongly advise that all clients opt for direct deposit of refunds into a personal checking account. In the event taxpayers do not have an individual checking account, a debit card option is available for refund deposits.

01/19/2026

01-19-26 IRS has announced that it will begin accepting 2025 tax year returns on 01-26-26. Please note that all tax returns prepared by our office, signed and returned to our office for filing before this date will be filed on 01-26-26. The first expected release dates of Federal refunds is +/- 02-25-26. No special action is required by taxpayers.

11/05/2025

11-05-25

The 2024 Senior Freeze/ANCHOR/NJStay filing program has ended on 10-31-25. Most Senior Freeze benefits should be paid by 10-31-25. Most ANCHOR benefits should be paid by 01-31-26. NJStay benefits will begin in February, 2026

Clients for whom our office has filed for these benefits are encouraged to contact our office if these dates pass without receipt.

09/15/2025

09-15-25 - Waves of IRS backlogged IRS notices are currently being issued and many of these notices are incorrect and/or time-delayed. Enforcement action, paused for several years due to COVID-19, is kicking back up. As IRS is presently underfunded and understaffed, automated enforcement is more common than in previous years meaning that notices are often issued without human review and/or are issued before the true status on an account has been updated to IRS files. As always, we encourage our client to forward copies of any received notices for review and advisory so we can address promptly.

09/04/2025

09-04-25 the Federal government has been mandated to cease issuing paper checks for all Federal benefits (including tax refunds) after 09-30-25. We believe that, before this deadline, an extension for this mandate will be granted to IRS so that they will issue paper checks for just one more tax season (tax year 2025).

Taxpayers should begin to plan for this eventual implementation. Our office will have programs in place (for tax year 2025), whereby our office can issue paper checks for refunds or have Federal refunds direct deposited onto a debit card via an IRS approved third party bank.

Please feel free to discuss these options during your tax year 2025 tax preparation.

08/21/2025

08-20-25 Our office is filing or will file and/or confirming acceptance of the 2024 ANCHOR application for those taxpayers who opted to have our office complete same on their behalf.. Where applicable, payments will be issued to the previously provided bank account or issued by paper check. If there are issues with direct deposit, the State will automatically convert the benefit to a paper check. In most cases, benefits should be received no later than 12-31-25.

No action is required by you but please reach out to us if you have any questions and/or if we can assist further, please be sure to contact our office.

07/31/2025

07-31-25 We are expecting the 2024 ANCHOR program to begin by mid-August and we will begin filing /confirming applications for those elective taxpayers as soon as the process is available. The State will be issuing letters to previous ANCHOR recipients regarding data on file beginning 08-13-25. Though not required, we strongly recommend that taxpayers forward a copy of this notice ASAP to our office by mail, delivery, fax or pdf upon receipt. Once the filing program has been completed, we will advise all elective taxpayers that their application has been filed.

Most ANCHOR benefits are expected to be issued by 11-30-25 but the latest available release date will stretch into 2026 depending on individual factors and we will advise on same as the program unfolds.

For those elective homeowner taxpayers who are age 66 as of 12-31-24 or over (and/or disabled), your 2024 ANCHOR application has already been filed by our office and no additional action is required.

The 2022 and 2023 ANCHOR programs have been cancelled. The last issued ANCHOR benefit was for tax year 2021 which, in most cases, was issued by 05-31-25.

07/22/2025

07-22-25 For those taxpayers qualifying for the PTR (Senior Freeze), 2024 ANCHOR and NJStay, the State has begun to issue PTR checks to eligible taxpayers (2024 ANCHOR payments and NJStay benefits will be paid later). The State has adjusted it's planned process for these payments so that, instead of the initially planned notices to be received between 07-01-25 and 11-30-25advising of benefits and processing dates, the State is processing benefits for each of these programs separately with separate dating.

As previously advised, please advise our office if you do not receive your PTR and ANCHOR benefits by 11-30-25. The benefit receipt date for the NJStay program has not yet been released by the State.

For those taxpayers eligible only for the 2024 ANCHOR program, those applications will begin to be accepted by the State in mid-August, 2025 and we will automatically file said applications for all taxpayers who have opted for our office to file same. These taxpayers will receive email notification (or a postcard if no email address on file) from our office once the 2024 ANCHOR program is complete with an expected benefit receipt date of 11-30-25.

Please feel free to contact our office with any questions.
