Tax refunds aren’t free money.

A refund just means you paid more in during the year than you actually owed.

If you didn’t have taxes taken out — you’re not automatically owed a refund.

This is especially true for business owners, gig workers, and 1099 income because:
• No taxes are withheld from your pay
• You’re responsible for income and self-employment taxes
• What you owe is based on profit, not how much you made

No withholding + no planning = no refund (and sometimes a bill).
