We had a great time participating in the Grinnell Middle School career fair, connecting with over 200 7th and 8th graders! 🎉

In our session, “Money, Choices and a Job that Helps People,” we kicked things off with a fun question: what would you do if you were given $1,000 today? 💵🤔

In addition to sharing about our work as financial planners- we talked about what the average millionaire really looks like today—around 60 years old with a couple of kids, living in an average house and driving average cars 🚗🏠—not just the celebrities they see on TikTok or in movies. The big takeaway: most millionaires get there by making smart money choices, spending less than they make, and working, saving, and investing consistently over time 📈💡.

It was energizing to see how engaged and curious the students were! Thanks to GMS for inviting us—we had a great time!

Introducing International Women’s Day Speaker, Claudia Schabel.

Claudia Schabel is the Founder, President and CEO of Schabel Solutions. Her approach as a sought-after diversity, equity and inclusion consultant combines over 20 years of DEI and human resources practitioner experience, largely with Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, with her international, multicultural background.

Born and raised in Brazil, Claudia lived and worked in Japan for five years prior to moving to the United States and earning a BA in International Relations from Drake University. Fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and proficient in Japanese, Claudia deeply understands cross-cultural communication. This expertise positions her to offer impactful consulting, training and coaching services in the areas of DEI and cultural competency.

Claudia earned Cornell University’s Diversity and Inclusion Certificate. She is also a Certified Virtual Facilitator by the International Institute for Facilitation and Intercultural Development Inventory® certified for conducting robust organization-wide cultural equity assessments.

Claudia was a commissioner on the City of Des Moines - Government Civil and Human Rights Commission. She currently serves on the Iowa Society for Human Resource Management State Council as the Director of Diversity, Grand View University Board of Trustees, the NSBA - National Small Business Assoc. Leadership Council, the U.S. Small Business Administration Region 7 Small Business Regulatory Fairness Board, and Des Moines Business Record Racial Equity Advisory Board. She also serves on the board for the National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity, Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI), Science Center of Iowa and Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden.

Her many years of leadership within the community led to honors and recognition such as Business Record – Iowa State University Ivy College of Business Woman Business Owner of the Year Award (2023), CITYVIEW Business Journal’s 22 from 2022 Award, Business Record ‘Forty Under 40’ Honoree (2008), State of Iowa’s Robert D. Ray Iowa Latino Ambassador Award (2010), and the Iowa International Center Passport to Prosperity Award (2014).
