Legs Financial

Legs Financial We guide families through the unpredictable terrain of wealth and life. In the past, it was being voted “Best Legs” as a senior superlative.

On a hike along the Virginia Triple Crown section of the Appalachian Trail, a fellow hiker gave me a trail name that brought past and present together and set the foundation for a new financial planning firm. “Legs” in the current sense was leading a group in the dark, early a.m. hours up the mountain along the trail, maintaining pace and keeping everyone moving forward to reach the summit prior t

o sunrise. Legs Financial believes in financial planning for all. We meet you where you are along your journey and work together to plot out a path that leads to the realization of your lifetime goals. Legs Financial specializes in working with: Families caring for loved ones with special needs & Working professionals with children.

What a beautiful day! ☀️ We started the day at the UNITE Festival where we had a chance to meet a bunch of great families and reps from many organizations. We also had a first ever 30,000 Plinko score! 👏 We finished the day with a fun Abilities tennis clinic. 🎾 Looking forward to seeing you at our next event or out on the court!

I'm excited to share something we've been working on at Legs Financial: a new 4-part webinar series built specifically for the special needs community. Each session is designed to help families and self-advocates feel more confident about the financial road ahead. Our sessions are in partnership with the Exceptional Children's Assistance Center - ECAC, and the topics build on each other from foundational basics through more advanced planning.

I just left the conference in Miami, and the visual contrast was jarring. While multimillion-dollar superyachts like this glide past our window, inside we were discussing a policy landscape for people with disabilities that is frozen in time.

The data we reviewed is sobering:
🔹 Countable resources: The limit on what a person with a disability can have in the bank has been static at $2,000 since 1989. Think about that: almost 40 years of inflation, and the asset limit hasn't moved a dollar.
🔹 Monthly living: While the world grows more expensive, SSI pays many people only up to $994 per month.
🔹 Systemic Maze: A simple 90-minute session was barely enough to scratch the surface of navigating SSA denials. It requires expert-level deep-dives for professionals just to guide families through a system that is needlessly opaque.
🔹 Moving Borders: The "Crossing Borders" pitfalls—how simply moving states can jeopardize a person's entire support system—was another critical topic.

We aren't just special needs planners; we are advocates. Heading home with fresh strategies to fight these static, systemic barriers and help our clients build a fair future.

April is Autism Acceptance Month, and while awareness is a great start, acceptance is where the real magic happens.

Acceptance means moving beyond just knowing someone is autistic. It means building a world where neurodivergent individuals are supported, celebrated, and included exactly as they are. It’s about recognizing that there is no standard way for a brain to work, and that’s a beautiful thing.

How can we move from Awareness to Acceptance?

Focus on Strengths & Support: Instead of looking for fixes, look for ways to accommodate different needs and celebrate unique perspectives.

Advocate for Accessibility: Whether it’s sensory-friendly spaces or inclusive workplaces, small changes make a massive difference.

Normalize Neurodiversity: Understand that stimming, different communication styles, and intense passions are valid and valuable parts of the human experience.

Autism isn’t a bug in the system; it’s a different operating system.

Let’s commit to being better allies, not just this month, but every single day. ✨
