On a hike along the Virginia Triple Crown section of the Appalachian Trail, a fellow hiker gave me a trail name that brought past and present together and set the foundation for a new financial planning firm. “Legs” in the current sense was leading a group in the dark, early a.m. hours up the mountain along the trail, maintaining pace and keeping everyone moving forward to reach the summit prior to sunrise. Legs Financial believes in financial planning for all. We meet you where you are along your journey and work together to plot out a path that leads to the realization of your lifetime goals. Legs has been on the move! After a few days in Clearwater, FL where Mike spent time learning and hearing from experts at The Stetson University College of Law’s National Conference on Special Needs Planning and Special Needs Trusts, we headed to the Greater Greensboro Buddy Walk hosted by the Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro (DSNGG). It was awesome seeing all the teams and hearing the Southwest Guilford Marching Cowboys start the day. 🎺 We rounded out the weekend visiting Peacehaven for their Harvest Festival where we totally forgot to take a picture but WOW what a spectacular event. We hope to see you while we are out and about soon!

What a beautiful day! ☀️ We started the day at the UNITE Festival where we had a chance to meet a bunch of great families and reps from many organizations. We also had a first ever 30,000 Plinko score! 👏 We finished the day with a fun Abilities tennis clinic. 🎾 Looking forward to seeing you at our next event or out on the court!

I just left the conference in Miami, and the visual contrast was jarring. While multimillion-dollar superyachts like this glide past our window, inside we were discussing a policy landscape for people with disabilities that is frozen in time.

The data we reviewed is sobering:
🔹 Countable resources: The limit on what a person with a disability can have in the bank has been static at $2,000 since 1989. Think about that: almost 40 years of inflation, and the asset limit hasn't moved a dollar.
🔹 Monthly living: While the world grows more expensive, SSI pays many people only up to $994 per month.
🔹 Systemic Maze: A simple 90-minute session was barely enough to scratch the surface of navigating SSA denials. It requires expert-level deep-dives for professionals just to guide families through a system that is needlessly opaque.
🔹 Moving Borders: The "Crossing Borders" pitfalls—how simply moving states can jeopardize a person's entire support system—was another critical topic.

We aren't just special needs planners; we are advocates. Heading home with fresh strategies to fight these static, systemic barriers and help our clients build a fair future.

We had a busy and FUN weekend! It all started with an amazing time at the Winston Salem Open with . Mike had on his coaching hat and had a great time with all the athletes, parents, and volunteers. He even got in some bowling with the group. Any guesses on his score? 🎳 Then Mike headed back to Greensboro where he had the pleasure of participating in the Autism Awareness and Acceptance celebration with the . Very happy to have the opportunity to meet some great families. We hope that you had a fun filled weekend too!
