Starting now! Taxpayers eligible for a refund related to the adoption tax credit carryforward will receive a notice from the , generally within 30 days of their account adjustment.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury clarified changes to the adoption tax credit under the Working Families Tax Cuts. For tax year 2025, unused credits from 2020–2024 may increase the refundable amount, up to $5,000 per qualifying child.

If you're eligible for a refund, there's no need to call the IRS or take additional action. You can check your refund status through your IRS Individual Online Account or the IRS app.

IRS2Go has a new name and more features!

The IRS app gives taxpayers secure access to services from their phone. View available balance information, make a payment, access certain notices and letters, review tax records, and more. Current IRS2Go users don't need to download a new app. If automatic updates are enabled, the app will update on its own. You can also update it through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
