Many people don’t realize that Medicare coverage isn’t something you can change anytime you want. There are specific times throughout the year when beneficiaries are allowed to review and make adjustments to their plans.
For those currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, there is a limited time at the beginning of the year when you may have the opportunity to make a one-time change if your current coverage isn’t working the way you expected. This could include switching to a different Medicare Advantage plan or returning to Original Medicare.
Outside of certain qualifying life events, most Medicare beneficiaries must wait until the fall **Medicare Annual Enrollment Period to make changes for the following year.
Because the rules and timelines can be confusing, it’s important to review your coverage and make sure your doctors, prescriptions, and healthcare needs are still being met.
If you have questions about your Medicare options, I’m always happy to help explain how the different enrollment periods work so you can make an informed decision about your healthcare coverage.

If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan, now’s the time to review your coverage and make changes if you need to. You have until March 31 to switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan, or to Original Medicare (and join a separate Medicare drug plan). Visit www.Medicare.gov/plan-compare to explore your options.
