Summer is in full swing! Is your bookkeeping keeping up? ☀️

Just like sunscreen, staying on top of your finances protects you from painful surprises later. Here are 3 quick summer bookkeeping habits for small business owners:

✔️ Reconcile your accounts regularly, at least monthly
✔️ Track mileage for every summer client meeting or delivery
✔️ Separate that tax savings fund now, before Q3 spending picks up

Implementing these small habits now will save you time later!

If you’re paying for anything business-related this summer, here’s your reminder:

📸 Save the receipt!

A business lunch, office supplies, a new laptop, a professional development course are all potentially deductible but you need to keep the documentation.

Apps like Dext, Hubdoc or even a simple Google Drive folder work great.

Future-you (and your accountant!) will be grateful you did! 😀

🚨 REMINDER for small business owners 🚨

Q2 estimated tax payment is due June 15!

If you’re self-employed or your business pays quarterly estimates, don’t let this one sneak up on you during the summer rush!

What would you do with 5 extra hours a week?⌛

Most small business owners spend 5+ hours every week on bookkeeping tasks.

That’s 5 hours you could spend on:
→ Getting new clients
→ Improving your product or service
→ Actually taking a summer vacation

Professional bookkeeping isn’t just about clean records, it’s about buying back your time.

May is almost over. Is your bookkeeping caught up? ✅

Here's your end-of-month bookkeeping routine:

🔄 Step 1: Sync your bank and credit card transactions, make sure everything is connected and up to date.
🗂️ Step 2: Review and categorize each transaction accurately.
📊 Step 3: Reconcile your bank and credit card accounts to your statements.
💰 Step 4: Check your income and follow up on any unpaid invoices.
⚠️ Step 5: Review your profit & loss report, flag anything unusual, and set aside money for taxes.

Save this checklist and use it every month. Your future self will thank you! 📌

Need help staying on top of it all? That's exactly what we're here for. 💙

Spring has a way of making everything feel like a fresh start, and your finances are no exception. If you've been putting off getting organized, consider this your sign! 🌱🔅

Friendly reminder: a crumpled receipt in your car cupholder is not a bookkeeping system!

If staying on top of receipts feels chaotic, try one of these habits:

📱 Take a photo the moment you spend the money
📂 Use a dedicated folder (physical or digital) for all receipts
🔗 Connect your business accounts to your bookkeeping software so transactions import automatically
📅 Set a weekly 15-minute "receipt review" on your calendar

The goal is simple: every expense accounted for, nothing lost, nothing missed. Need help building a system that actually works? That's exactly what I'm here for. 💙

📣 Heads up if you're still using QuickBooks Desktop 2023!

Intuit is officially ending support for QuickBooks Desktop 2023 on May 31, 2026. That means no more:
❌ Security updates
❌ Technical support
❌ Payroll and banking add-on services

After that date, your software will become increasingly outdated and vulnerable.

If this is you, now is the time to plan your next step. We're happy to help you figure out the best path forward for your business. 💙

I know bookkeeping isn't the most exciting part of running a business. And when things get busy, it's usually the first thing that gets pushed to the bottom of the list. 💛

If you're behind and feeling overwhelmed by your bookkeeping, please know you don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Send me a message and we can talk about getting your books caught up and back on track. No judgment here, just help!
