Alton Area Tax Project

Alton Area Tax Project Alton Area Tax Project prepares free Federal and State tax returns for low to moderate income families with annual income of up to $64,000.

Gateway EITC Community Coalition (GECC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing tax returns free of charge for low to moderate income families. We assist eligible individuals to receive tax credits and refunds to raise their living standards. IRS data shows 53% of St. Louis Metropolitan area low income families filed their returns using a paid preparer. We estimate that the working poo

r in the St. Louis area pay an average of $290 in tax preparation fees. This represents an additional drain of $11 million from the pockets of taxpayers most in need. In addition to that savings, we help clients avoid the high cost Refund Anticipation Loans offered by many commercial paid preparer offices by offering free, fast, direct deposit to their checking or savings accounts. GECC is working diligently to spread EITC awareness and improve access to the dollars to those in the community who are most in need. http://gatewayeitc.org/
