Tax Deadline Extended

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that tax day will be delayed from April 15 to July 15. He made the announcement on Twitter on Friday, days after announcing a deferral on tax payments but not on filing day.

“All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties,” Mnuchin tweeted.

Hi everyone,
An important tax update about your individual tax returns:

Federal Taxes:
The IRS is expected to extend the PAYMENT deadline for your 2019 tax return by 90 days (to July 14, 2020). The FILING deadline though remains April 15, 2020 (unless an extension is filed). The extensions are NOT AUTOMATIC.

California State Taxes:
The CA FTB has moved the PAYMENT and FILING deadline by 60 days (from 4/15/2020 to 6/15/2020). The extensions are NOT AUTOMATIC.

My advice:

If you have not filed yet, email me to file an extension for you. You will NOT OWE payment with the extension (due to the payment extension). We are anticipating changes in the relief packages and an extension may be beneficial for you.
